Was that part of the contract for appearing on that comp?

Well, that label isn't very active, I know that much. Their website is rarely
updated. Kingpin is run by a couple guys from the Siren Six, and they moved
from Minnesota to California. Lastly, Kingpin was supposed to put out the new
record by a band called Doctor Mannette several times, but it kept getting
pushed back. As of two days ago, I heard that the Doctor Mannette album will
now be coming out on another label because Kingpin is pretty much "out of
business."
Hmm.
That's it.

its a lot deeper than that. Kingpin alledgedly fucked the readymen, stiffed
them like 3,000 dollars, The people in the siren six are very contreversial to
say the least. They are sxe, they accuse all east coast bands of being sexist,
they dub them selves the best ska band, the cd, is dubbed the best ska album,
they also say they have created the best new hybird in ska "2tome mod emo".
The siren six are also very busy trying to get signed to a major label, which
is also keeping kingpin down. I wuld say that band wise(jinkies, siren six,
readymen) they are pretty good though

now, i'm not a part of any of this little "spat" and i have never heard siren
six, but i did read the interview they did with skatastrophe and they did NOT
accuse all east coast bands of being sexist. and i'm rather inclined to agree
with them in some cases. you reap what you sow, for example, you act like a pig
on stage and ask women in the audience to "show us what you got" when most of
them where born while you were in high school, people have the right to call
you on it. joke or not, you look like an idiot. but that is well beside the
point, don't state something unless you are certain of its validity. -kim

Why do people hate the Pietasters so much?

I've heard stories, rumors, etc., but have never seen or met the Pietasters.
I understand that their reputation is pretty awful, but I'm just curious what
personal experiences people may have had with them - good or bad.

WRONG!!!!! first off, the s6! are not sXe...i've seen many of them
smoke...and the reason they called THE PIETASTERS, not "all east coast
bands" sexist is because of sexist comments made by them at live
shows...and as far as i'm concerned, the term 2tonemodemo is exactly
what they sound like...next, they HAVE been signed by a major label,
however, i dont know about the readymen, i dont really follow them....

I was at the Bayou in Georgetown when I saw Steve Jackson and the Pietasters'
bass player (the really big guy, don't know his name) shove the kid who was
running the door out of the way after he asked them to pay to get in, and then
barge into the club to stand around threatening Digital and trying to start
a fight with him. Apparently because he'd said something on alt.music.ska or
some mailing list about not liking "Willis" after it came out. Although I
wasn't one of the people they were fucking with, I'd call this a "bad"
Pietasters experience.

Morgan.

PS. I'm sure someone's going to have a perfectly reasonable explanation for
all of this; I don't claim to know all the details, although I was sitting at
the next table over when it all happened.

really? man i must've been talking to anthony

well, anyway, matt and anthony thought skinnerbox was much better (because they
are) and since that i have gotten matt listening to:the slackers, hepcat,
skinnerbox, Stubborn allstars, rocker t, wailers, lee perry, paragons, insteps,
etc

some change- from emo to ska rocksteady and reggae....but i'm not complaining-
at least now i have someone to talk to my music about

OK so what exactly about their sound is "mod" . please explain in 500
words or less. You could do the same for the "emo" bit however I'm not
too interested in that so focus more on what you think "mod" sounds like
and why the Siren Six exemplify it . oh and even I can hear that they're
more interesting than 2Tone but most of their songs aren't even on the ska
rhythm so the comparison is pretty lacking.

I've had a bad experienec with Siren Six... they came to my home
town.. a small city called Kenosha, WI ... where they had a show set
up at this club called The Underground... Another band that was
playing set up the show and they didn't take into account that the
Underground has no PA system.. So we got a call to bring ours over...
being the nice guys we are (and we were trying to get hook ups for
future shows) we brought it right over... The show turned out to be a
bust about 10 people showed up .... As for our PA system lets just say
that after Siren Six got off the stage there was smoke coming out of
the Power Amp.. probably didn't help that they kept tell us to BRING
IT UP BRING IT UP!! ... hm.. with 10 people there I don't think it
needs to be that loud!

I don't know what his name was, but the guy who was playing bass at the time
was big. And tough looking.

I have a friend that ran sound at one of there shows and had nothing but
nice things to say about them. Said they were upstanding, decent fellas.
That's not to say that they are a little nuts and will more than likely go
the extra mile for a laugh or a little fun. Don't take stuff as a
personal attack. Give um another try because as far as hard working bands
go, they have definitly earned the right to have the possition that they
have attained. Not to mention the fact that they are talented as hell.

At a concert I went to, they had a pizza party afterwards and
my friends and I talked to Tom Goodin and Toby (the trumpet
player). They both seemed pretty cool then. Toby was really

i am definately not a mod speciallist (even though i participated in
the rod the mod fiasco of last year), but from what i hear, they have
that sound...and they have a target on their shirts man! isnt that
mod?!? as far as the emo side, they definately have an emo edge, the
fugazi like breakdown in "begin" and the little bass/ drum/guitar
instrumentals in between each song are very emo like, basically, they
dont have they typical ska sound, which is why they are much better
than half of the shitty bands that play today that all sound the same

Ok. I worked a pietasters show when they came to Nashville last year and
the entire time they were respectable people. True, they could be slightly
immature at some points but thats to be expected, what with an all male
bad. Plus the show was kick ass compared to any other that come to that
venue.
