JJ Johnson died yesterday at age 77. He was one of
the greatest trombonists ever, and has influenced musicians of all instruments
and genres. I know that this is a saxophone newsgroup, but nonetheless, I wanted
to post about this here.

I just picked up a new JJ Johnson cd called "Heroes". It's a nice one. And one tune on it is a 7-minute Wayne Shorter feature.

I attended a J J Johnson clinic as a high school
kid in the mid 70's in Winnipeg Canada. Even as a sax player, I learned in that
one hour more about the art of tone and improv from him than in any other clinic
I subsequently attended. Sorry to hear of his passing.
