Can anyone tell me what mouthpiece and ligature Coltrane used. The ligature he
is usually pictured with has a thumbscrew on the bottom. Thanks.

John Coltrane: 1950-1955: Otto Link Tonemaster 5 and metal 50's Duck Bill Berg
Larsen. 1958-1962: Otto Link Tonemaster 6: 1962: Late Otto Link Tonemaster
(proportional body and long shank) and a custom made 4**** model with the
ligature spine put on. 1963-1964: Otto Link Super Tone Master New York model 6*
and Otto Link Super Tone Master Pompano model 6 (Selmer metal ligature). 1964:
hard rubber long shank Selmer soloist F. 1965-1967: hard rubber/plastic Selmer
Goldentone 4 (refaced to a 6 by Coltrane, whose broken stumps of teeth were
sensitive to metal, and eventually, hard rubber mouthpieces. Coltrane
reportedly got the idea of making his own mouthpieces from Gato Barbieri).

Not sure Phil. I would have to ask Oliver.
