Inspired by the first write and his MK VII.

Thinking of putting up a list of "Best" mpc's on a martin, on my The Martin
site.

What Mpc, Facing , reed do you use on what type of Martin
What does it do to the intonation of your instrument.
What sound does it give you.
What music do you play with it.

I'm curious.

TIA

Greetings

Hand's down best for me when I want to get that fuzzy Ben Webster ballad
sound, a Steve Broadus .085. These were issued with Martins for a time,
he was a designer there for a while.

To cut through the band (until I got the Keilwerth), I used an NY Meyer
6M on the Martin tenor, which I now use on the Keilwerth.

I used a Meyer 7M, java 2-1/2 reeds. Made even my Indiana pretty darn
flexible! I use it now on my SML tenor

I recently had the pleasure of adopting a 1959 The Martin Tenor and
will be watching this thread very closely since the sax came with a
yamaha 7C mpc which will have to do until the real thing comes
along... (more money into the adoption piggy bank...)

PS. Re: Lacquer wear, I'd be exagerating if I said I had 8% left so
and I can see part of the bell zipper so certainly no relac but no
negative impact on sound quality.

FWIW....

What Mpc, Facing , reed do you use on what type of Martin?
--> Yamaha 7C, Java 3.5, 1959 The Martin Tenor (is this still
considered Committee?)
What does it do to the intonation of your instrument?
---> Not much, but then again it might say the same about me...
What sound does it give you?
--> Think Jr. high band in september, kazoo-style...
What music do you play with it?
The classics (Rubanks, The Real Book and my own transcription of Ben
Webster and Coleman Hawkins doing You'd be so nice to come home to)

I have used Otto Links on my Martin Indiana tenor. One is a #7 and the
other a #5*. More power for that "big Martin" sound with the #7 but a
mellower darker sound with the #5*. In both cases it has worked great
for Dixieland. I am now using the #5* on my new SA80 III tenor and have
ordered an RPC. I'll try the RPC on the Martin also.

Excellent idea.

For my Tenor Indiana with gold keys, I use a Metal Otto link 7*. It blends a
full dark tone but I still need to get it a little bit brigther ala Jay
Beckestein maybe?

How ever for my Martin alto:

I am still looking for a mouthpiece that will give full tone to my alto.

I played a Duckoff D8 and M8.

I try the Meyers but not very flex to get the Tones David Sanborn or Jay
beckestein get.

I am about to try the Beechlers mouthpieces.

But if there is anyone out there who found the ultimate mouthpiece for an alto
Martin sax .....

Let me know`

Thanks,

Peace.

If it weren't for the $350.00 price tag and a tenor in my future, I
would have snapped up an old NY Meyer 7M (for my '36 Handcraft) that I
tried at Ackerman's about a rear ago. It was like butta.
