Anybody ever heard of a
"Jerome Thibouville-Lamy" tenor sax

It has turned up in a local(-ish) auction catalogue.
I'm wondering if it might be old / interesting enough to drive
a hundred miles or so early this Saturday morning,

Any got any info or approximate dates ?

cheers

Andy

Old french company well known for old timers in brass instruments as bass,
tubas, trombones, but less for saxophone.
Sax blower since 1955, it's the first time i hear about Thibouville-Lamy sax.
Sure it will be an antique!

I've seen pictures of saxes (and one actual C melody) from the period
circa 1900. These looked like bargain priced instruments, nickel plated,
stamped but not engraved, with range to low B.

Well, my clarinet has a 2 piece wooden body and goes down to Eb so its prob not from
the same range as the saxes. Cant find out alot of info about them though.

[shnip happens]

OK, folks, thanks for the info.
I found that THIBOUVILLE LAMY JEROME
was formed in 1867 in Paris, France.
Apparently they are still in business today

it sounds like it may well be the same busted-up cheap
C-melody (to low B) that I saw here in Glasgow,
going through a different auction house.

I think I'll pass. Maybe I should bid instead on lot 67:

'Violin, marked "Stradivarius" estimate £ 40 to £ 50'.....

It seems that while America had a 'saxophone craze' ,
Scotland had a 'violin craze'.
There must be over 100 "fiddles" in the sale, and more bows.

ciao

Here in the US, I was watching "Antiques Roadshow" which has all kinds of
collectable stuff on it, and someone had an old violin that they thought was
real collectable, but was only worth $400 or so. But the bow was worth $3,000!

Kinda like those old Bueschers I see every now and then on Ebay for $300 with a
serial numbered NY Meyer.
