Dear all,

I am planning to write my dissertation about the use of the saxophone in
printed advertisements. Does anybody have any information regarding this
topic?

Or does anybody know, if an image analysis about the saxophone has been
conducted and if so, by whom and how can I get access to it?

You would help me loads with any kind of hint you have and pass on to me.

Thanks!!! Melanie

melanie -

Assume you mean saxophone as an iconic instrument in non-sax related ads -
eg Jazz after shave, Weller hair stuff. If you mean ads for saxes, check The
Sax and Brass Book (Brian Priestley, Dave Gelly et al) for some examples.

very soft reeds, to compensate for lack of lung capacity.

One of the M&M promos around Christmas a year or two ago was a plastic novelty
figurine of an M&M playing a sax. It sold in department stores, gift shops and
discount stores. It's now starting to show up used at flea markets where it's
being marketed as "collectible" at prices starting at around $5. One flea
market dealer in the mid-Atlantic area has the gall to slap a $70 price tag on
an M&M sax player, but I notice he's been trying to sell it for over a year
now. I think the going "outdoor show" rate for them is usually in the $10 to
$20 range.
