Jane Ira Bloom has had a long and varied career, during which she's
enjoyed both creative and commercial success for a jazz musician.
Her straight horn blurs the lines between the mood-rich compositions
and improvisation. Her groups always uses the increased sense of space
for intense collective creation, with Jane Ira pressing far beyond
her instruments' usual role and engaging the music in edgy, complex
dialogue.

She always rises to the occasion with brilliance, responding to the
stimulus with a fluency of thought and execution, Jane Ira is one of
the most significant styles that emerged in the past decades.

Her music that tests the balance of control and risk, and also becomes
some of the great performances in todays jazz.
Her soprano sax has a tonal thickness that viscerally recalls WHAT
creativity _SHOULD_be about. And then some :)
Her lines and solos tug and shove with the force and detail of the
greatest creators in jazz.Once you hear her...you'll know she was meant
to play this music.

Her use of various doopler effects sonically are both rhythmically
hypnotic as they are harmonically bold. She also is a natural born
bandleader. As a composer her wonderfully evocative tunes paint
pictures in your mind. I love the journey she takes you on, and I love
_HOW_ she does it.
What sets her apart is the absolutely seamless manner in which she
integrates grooves, achieving an authentic fluency that allowed them to
break free from the reigning "rhythmic paradigm" while simultaneously
retaining a connection to the older swing feel.

Another thing I adore about her style is the dynamic!!
Her bluesy melodic fragments played over hypnotically amazing time
feels, the interjections of oddly placed modulations balancing the
rhythmic regularity and surprising the listener as her tunes shift
gears toward conclusion.

I could go on forever about Jane Ira Bloom.....
Why not check her website as well.

Jane Ira Bloom is wonderful. She posseses a very warm and personal sound on
the soprano sax. I dig her unique use of vibrato - very cool. Her duo
record with Fred Hersh was a gem. And her CDs with Kenny Wheeler as a
sideman are very interesting indeed.
Check her out, by all means!

Jane is both an intellectual and emotional player, not to mention a great
teacher. One of the best soprano saxophone players on the planet, and
always interesting to hear. She can do a solo that will entrance you, or a
large-scale composition that is intricate and innovative.
