On the same topic, anyone have any experience using a harmonizer on
the bari to get that kind of nasty guitari-ish sound? I think he
played a bari and tenor at the same time to get the 5ths, but I'd like
to try to do the same w/ electronics...not enuff room onstage for all
the guitars, saxes, and mics (I sing, too....)

Speaking of saxophones, Dana uses a Selmer Mark VI tenor with a Berg Larson
mouthpiece. “100 over S, something”, he said. “I’m not sure what
numbers, but the tenor and bari mouthpieces I use are Bergs and they’re
pretty wide open. The baritone is a Conn with rolled tone holes and the lady
on the bell. And my bass sax is a Beuscher that I picked up from Emilio at
Rayburn’s. I use a Bari baritone mouthpiece on the bass. I play La Voz
medium hards on all three saxes.”
He has a very involved reed treatment process that he learned from Steve Berlin
of Los Lobos. Voodoo spells, incantations, holy water, etc...peace - AC
Do you know where I could get a copy of that article? Are there back
issues available?
Thanks,
George
Probably the men's room of the Lizard Lounge in Cambridge...

I'm not sure what issue that ran in but I'm pretty sure you can find it at
dornpub.com. It was about three years ago.

I think you'll like it....Dana plays his way on it..not a lot but...it really
showed me something about his use of space.
I like his tone..on his saxes a lot.
To play with ::::an original:::::::::
like Lawrence who set the stage for much of what has transpired in
words/spoken poems etc...this seems a unique fit.
I keep it in the car,and it certainly never gets boring :)
But, I always dug Ferlingetti...he has that :::::of the moment::::::: that is
improv.
Check it out,you can order it thru City Lights Books in SanFran...
Ken Nordine is onna my heros as well.
Many a night his tapes and stuff kept me company AND AWAKE coming back from
some gig and gittin' home at the buttcrack of dawn. Ever hear the one Ken did
with Paul Horn....its wild :)
