I love to hear Ramones stories. I'm sure alot of you have a ton.
My Favorite Ramones story is when they played Sundance out on LI. Somehow I
got tricked into paying $25 to see them on New Years. The lady told me there
was gonna be food and free Champaine. In which there wasn't.
So me and a friend make the hour trek by train and meet this Chinese guy at
the station who appears to be lost. He approaches us and he can only say 2
words. "Ramones" and "Sundance". I thought that was great.
So we get to the club and I figured that there would be a huge line out the
door. Man was I wrong. There was about 10 people there. Maybe more people
when they go on? No
Basically, The Ramones played for Me, My friend, and That Chinese guy. Who
by the way, still went nuts even though the place was empty.
I Just remember them still rockin for over 1hr..

I used to see the Ramones every new Years for like 4-5 years straight. One
year in Manhattan, I got free tix to see them. This band The Stotts opened
up, which was Ritchie Stotts from the Plasmatics band. Right before the
countdown at Midnight, who comes out but Wendy O, to sing a couple of
Plasmatics songs and do the countdown. Then at about 1230, the ramones come
out and rock my world.
I don't think I ever went to a bad Ramones show and I had seen them at least
15 times.

Let's see... I think my favorite Ramones story was getting to
meet some of them after a gig, and Marky let my friend Steve
(a/k/a Moldy Ramone) drink some of his beer. He was in Heaven. :)

My other favorite story involves a fellow Ramones fan I met at
the University. I bumped into him at my first Ramones show in
Minneapolis in November, 1979. He said he was too young to get
in, so I lent him my I.D. Unfortunately, he didn't memorize my
birthday and they gave him the gate.

He then went around back to hang out with some friends, when one
of the Ramones (I think it was Johnny or Dee-Dee) poked his head
out. The Ramone asked what they what they were doing, and they
told him they were underage and couldn't get in. So, naturally,
the Ramone let them all in through the backstage door and they
got to see the show.

Were they great guys, or what?

I saw them in a small bar near Chicago. It was when Marky had just joined
them. They played a lot of songs from the upcoming "Road to Ruin" - the
first time I had heard them play new original songs I had never heard.

Entering for the oncore, Marky hopped toward his drum set and accidently
knocked Johnny's amp off his cabinet. Being 1st row, standing, literally
inches from Johnny, I got to see first hand, the legendary wrath of Johnny.
He cussed out Marky for about 10 minutes until his amp got fixed. He
flicked his pick at me in disgust at Marky.

AHAAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA. I have seen them every tour they had, except the
first two albums. This particular show doesn't come much better than this.
But obviously, they never regained the momentum they generated with Tommy.

I went to see the Ramones on a whim in Sept of 1986 at the Hollywood
Palladium. I had heard their music somewhat but I did not own any of
their albums. I fell in love with them that night and danced my ass
off. (I am normally not one to dance). The opening band, Social
Distortion, were great too. I'll never forget that show as long as I
live. Thank you Joey.

Best story for me was the last time I saw them, on their farewell tour at
Phoenix Plaza in Pontiac. I was a true dinosaur among the kids there, and I
was looking longingly at the mosh pit, thinking about the good old days.
Someone who I swear I never saw before tapped me on the shoulder, said "Mark,
you oughta go in there" and jumped into the melee. Well, what the hell, I lept
in....oldest by about 20 years, not quite as fast as I used to be....

For the first time ever slam dancing, I got knocked down by an enormous
skinhead. Leveled, really. The crowd stepped back so I could get on my feet,
and I figured hell, that's the end of the line now. I stepped out of the
scrum, and then they started playing "The KKK Took My Baby Away" and I lept
back in.....

I saw 'em at a wild gig at the Edinburgh Playhouse(Scotland) in 1986.
Me and a few friends waited outside beforehand to meet the band. And
waited. And waited. Finally this little van comes trundling down the
road... like an ice-cream van or something. "ha ha, this'll be them" I
joked, only to then realise that it WAS them. Travelling in style
(not!). We got autographs, and I distinctly remember Joey's face
having a green tinge about it! Musta been a hard tour!

(I also remember Richie wouldn't sign my record... he was sitting in
afore-mentioned Luxury Van (again... NOT!) waiting on the the rest...
and he wouldn't even take a few seconds to scrawl his name... I've
never forgotten that... there's still a slight grudge against that
miserable git!)

Sad to think I'll never see 'em again. Great memories of the Glasgow
gig in 85... that was REALLY fucking wild. The Ramones/Damned double
bill in London... ah the list goes on...
