This past summer of 2001, I was listening to an interview with
Rammstein on the radio. The were talking about some of the newer
songs. They were talking about the meaning of 'Links 2 3 4'.
Unfortunately, I was suffering from heat exhaustion, and don't
remember the meaning he said about the song. It seems that I recall
them saying that some people just 'could not understand it'. Does
anyone know what is the meaning behind 'Links 2 3 4'?

Thanks.

This was taken from Herzeleid.com - enjoy.

Russian

"Left 2 3 4"

Can you break hearts
can hearts speak
can you torture hearts
can you steal hearts

They want my heart on the right spot
but then I look below
it beats left there

Can hearts sing
can a heart burst
can hearts be pure
can a heart be made of stone

They want my heart on the right spot
but then I look below
it beats left there
left two three four left *

Can you ask hearts
(can you) carry a child under yourself
can you give it away
(can you) think with your heart

They want my heart on the right spot
but then I look below
it beats there in the left breast
the envious have not known it well

Left two three four left

* "Left two three four" is as in an army chant for marching.

My understanding is they're sick of people saying they're a fascist
band, so they wrote the song to show their polotical leanings. Heart
beats on the LEFT side, i.e., they're not a right-wing plotical group.

Make sense?

Thanks for the explanation.
Their lyrics are powerful as always.
I see the explaination of 'heart beats on the left side'. I never
viewed them as a right wing group (but I guess, some people may think
that). Rammstein is just a great band with powerful and stirring
music. 'Links 2 3 4' is a great tune. People should just try and
appreciate them for who the are.

Thank all of you who took the time to read my question and respond.

I don't think any fan of their musik would see them as right wing.
Just german press trying to make them into something they are not. It
started with the Herzeleid cover photo, which apparently had some
people saying they were trying to make themselves into the new master
race or some such shit.

Glad I could help! :)

The song is describing how the band has been accused of being fascist so they say my heart beats on the left which is a reference between right wing officials (nazis) and left wind officials (democrats) this song was supposed to thwart accusations on their behalf, the only reason that they even got hate for thst was because their bans name is rammstein which refers to a gruesome airline accident that occurred at a facility of sorts called "ramstein" they simply added another m because in german it means battering ram, so when people found these details out along with the content of their songs they took the German battering ram into a different incorrect context
