I think it's a good representation of Zack's struggle - as an artist,
activist, and human being in this world.

I always thought it was about the Earth. All these people saying we are
working on a solution yet the Earth gets worse and worse and at this point
"we're already dead"

I could get into an analogy on the "we're already dead" normally I'd keep the
analogies to myself but ...well, here goes.
"we're already dead" a phrase expressing frustration, perhaps even despair.
it's like "what more can you do to us? we've fought and fought and fought this
fucking battle, and it seems like we're getting nowhere still! Well guess what?
We're dead now (dead inside, not clinically) so fuck it, you can't tire him or
us anymore because we're past the point of caring..." it's the old "I don't
give a fuck!" thing going on there.
wow...i looked back on that and it was a total ramble! kudos to anyone who can
understand it and even more if you think it made an ounce of sense (heat is
getting to me, i'm going for a swim now..:)

It's Zack's special way of getting in the face of all those who would hold
him/you/me/us back. "You're trying to tire me/I can see you in front of
me". He identifies the symptoms "History's a flowery cancerous mess" and
the cause "I wanna be Jackie Onassis" (celebrity worship).

It was written to celebrate the death of Richard Nixon, but the only nixon
specific thing is "Those colorful words for the Laos frontiersman".

So it's like this. Nixon and those like him, the killers exploiters liars
rapers of the world and history are trying to tire us, take us down. but we
can see them in front of us, we know who they are, they're in our sights.

Everything is open to interpretation. He doesn't really tell people what his
lyrics are about, so we can't REALLY know what he was thinking, or EXACTLY what
things mean. Just like anything...poetry, stories, paintings, any type of art
- they are left for the interpretation of the admirer, or critique, so you can
relate...of course that doesn't go for everything. ANYWAY...

Okay, here is my personal interpretation of the song:

"She got everyone's eyes/In every home there's a sickening distress/Of roll
that film she's a precious, a precious one"

It is about how the media tried to portray Jackie Onassis (and others of
course) as a goddess and all that, while trying to hide what was really going
on in the world. A lot of people were getting sick of it...although no one
really spoke up about the broad.

"And those colorful words for the Laos frontiersmen who passed away with the
truth amidst the eulogues of bliss"

During the Vietnam Conflict, there were a lot of strategies in Laos, that were
never publicized at the time...They border Vietnam, and the people in the Laos
frontier were the only ones who knew what really happened, so they "passed away
with the truth" while the people who led the strategies and were involved got
"eulogues of bliss" because they were seen as military heroes and everything...

"Who will know now what I know about you?/Now that history's a flowery
cancerous mess"

He feels that the things he found out about what really happened will never get
out there. History being a flowery cancerous mess is true...whatever we learn
always has worse things behind it, especially during the time he is talking
about.

aw, let's see it broken, bloody and undressed"

He wants to strip the truth and make you see it for what it really is...

Now the whole "Tire Me" is, I believe, the way the system throws all this stuff
in your face, like the media with Jackie and all that stuff...and how they are
trying to tire us, giving us all this information that is useless, and
eventually we won't even bother to find out the truth because they try to
brainwash you.

"Why don't you get from in front of me"

He's telling the media, system, gov't...everyone to get outta his way so he can
see the truth and know what's really going on.

"I Wanna be Jackie Onassis/I wanna wear a pair of dark sunglasses"

It's sarcasm, how he "wishes" he could have blinders on to the world as she
seemed to try to do.

"I wanna be Jackie O O O O please don't die"

Again...sarcasm...

"We're already dead"

This is a pessimistic view on things, on everything mentioned in this song.
Like saying we're already dead, we're already brainwashed, so why bother? It's
the mentality that a lot of people have. I don't think he has that exact
mentality, he is just trying to make people see.

That's my 10 cents.

Incredible, that wasn't exactly my interpretation of the whole song but you
came pretty damn close Mae! wow. One thing I didn't agree with, I don't think
Jackie O. was necessarily blind to the world around her just because she wore
sunglasses. She mostly knew *exactly* what was going on, she wore the
sunglasses to sort of make a game of all the attn. they put on her (so she
could watch people and they wouldn't know it). there were other reasons too....

Any thoughts on the Jackie (sp) Onassis reference then?

It's not because she wore sunglasses, it's because she chose to be.

But chose to ignore things.

I'm sure it was because of the sun.

nahh, that was a quote straight from Jackie Kennedy to a friend, she wore
sunglasses
to "sort of make of game of it, so they all watch me but have no idea who I am
looking at" that is what she said anyway, not only that but she was sort of
skitish in public and maybe it made her nervous... sunglasses probably worked.

i read the transcript of an interview with zack, and the interviewer asked zack
what the meaning of that reference was. as you prob'ly know, zack likes to be
mysterious, and doesn't usually give interviews. he responded with something
like "oh, come on, can't you sense the sarcasm in that?"

outside of her little "camelot"

The Jackie O reference? (oh, by the way, I'm baa-aack!) Well, seems to be
about our idolization of the famous regardless of their character. If
someone's rich and one of the "perfect people" they join the limelight, looking
so good like a box of fresh-wrapped Twinkies (sorry, Pennywise lyric) but
maintaining fame through superficial, artificial qualities. It kinda relates
to JFK jr too, though not meant to obviously since that was so recent, but they
send the Pentagon after him and this HUGE exhaustive search. He's not of
political importance or anything, he's just a bzillionaire playboy, basically.
Well, whatever

Tire me is about the globalization of the tire industry. Actually, Goodyear
wanted this song for their new commercials, and Tom said "This group always
has been and always will be a Michelin group" So, that's that.

Aquatreads??? -The DEVIL!!!!

(Seriously, i agree with Mae's excellent thesis on the song.)

very funny, haha.If you really want the truth, Zack is a chronic insomniac and
"Tire Me" is in reference to his nights where he doesn't fall asleep because of
the fear that the government is after him. He fears that if corporate backed
television bores him enough to to lose his gurad and fall asleep, then "they"
will come and assasinate him in his sleep. The reference to Jackie O is that
she was a target to for a while. She would stay awake at nights for many
years, but the sandman finally caught up with her so she decided to wear
sunglasses all the time to hide her eyes so no one could tell if she was asleep
or awake. When she passed away a few years ago because of old age, she won the
battle through her ways of tricking "them".

"Please don't die" is Zack's way of saying that he was upset when she died b/c
he didn't get to talk to her and find out her secrets. So he' still in fear of
his life and a chronic insomniac. That's also why he smokes and why the album
took so long.

Any other questions you would like me to answer?
