'De', is pronounced like 'the', but with a 'D' in place of the 'T' and
'H'.
'La', is same as, "La La La La La La", as if singing.

Yes, and there is a bootleg song with Zack and (I think) KRS-1, and the
rapper refers to Zack by the name "Rowka", which I would presume is
correct if Zack is partner in the song as well.

yes i think this is right, because i know a fair bit of italian, which
is closely related to spanish and the 'ch' has a 'k' sound.

well, i don't claim to be a spanish speaker or to have ever heard zack say his
own last name... [interesting, i REally don't think i have ever heard him say
it] um... but i always took it as he says in "Bulls On Parade" :

"either drop tha hits like de la o..."

he's definitely got the 'day-lah' thing going on there. so... i dunno. somebody
should really ask the man how he wants it pronounced. :)

It's 'ch as in 'chat - really. Chapa, Chamartín, Chango.

However I wouldn't be surprised if he pronounces it Rowka, after all
languages tend to borrow/adapt words and assimilate them.

It depends where you're from and what lenguage you speak. In Spanish it
would be like its written above. In German it would sound like the spanish
"J" (e.g. hijo) - sorry, but i think in english there isnt something
similiar.

OKAY,  I'm sure it's been settled but I HAD to get my two cents in regarding Zack.
Being Mexican I have these observations.

"CH" is pronounced like it reads.
Ever hear of the last name "De La Cruz" or the De La Cruz Blvd.?
How about that boxer Oscar De La Hoya? (Which by the way literally means "from the kettle" or "from the pot"). The phrase "De La" literally means "From the".
So Zack is Zack From The Rocha!! (Still not positive what a Rocha is...)

ONCE AND FOR ALL  :
It's "De La" like the name Stella but the "D" is pronounced like in the English word "Thee".

Some of my family is just plain Rocha, and ALL OF MY MEXICAN FAMILY PRONOUNCES IT "Roh-CHA", as in "CHA-CHA-CHA". (You've all heard of that, I'm sure. )

But there's MANY words with the pronunciation CH in Spanish.
Chango, Charro, Churro, Chavo, Chapulin, Chato, Chancla, Chocolate. (Pronounced "Choh-ko-LA-teh").

Anyway, no disrespect to anyone, just my two cents.

One last thing, in one article in Rolling Stone (hey they were on the cover and they were the lead story so get off my ass, I don't have a subscription!!!!!!!)

Anyway, in the article I think somewhere it mentions that Zack does not know a lot of Spanish and that he regrets not learning it earlier on. He I'm sure says enough to get by. Although the Zapatistas (the leaders anyway, maybe a lot of the rebels by now) know much English but I'm sure it would help to meet "half way".

So the possibility exists that Zack may be inadvertenly "Americanizing" his own last name, since he didn't really know his dad that well. And I don't think Zack is gonna be correcting anyone on stage as to his intro, cuz that would look like a dis. As the always Nine Mile wrote, language as unfortunately people also, are sometimes assimilated.

OH by the way, HERE'S the clincher.
IT'S ALMOST PRONOUNCED LIKE ONE OF HIS FAVORITE VACATION SPOTS. HOW DO WE PRONOUNCE CHIAPAS?

Nine Mile wrote:

It is NOT "day".

That would be Americanizing it.

Like I had said, I'm assuming it's closest to the Mexican pronouncing of it, and I can ask anyone in my family, being Mexican, and it's :

De (like "Thee" but without the "-ee" sound. It's the "e" in the word "sent".)

La  (like "raw")

Rocha (not like "row", as in "Row Row Your Boat".  It should stop short of the "w" ending part. Like the word "raw" but instead of an "a" there's an "o". Say "raw" a couple of times and then substitute the "a" for an "o".)

there is something that i've been wanting to discuss for a long time. What
causes so many revolutions to betray their own ideals. Examples:
Bolsheviks, People's Republic of China, Cuba, Cambodia and Vietnam.

here are few theories of my own: By neccessity, a revolutionary army must
be organized along military/totalitarian lines in order to be successful.
Most often, it is the army and not the civilian front which is in true
control of the revolution. Castro was the Supreme Commandante of Cuba's
guerillas, same with Mao. Once power is taken, it is almost impossible to
relinquish. Thus the strategies of leading an army become the strategies of
leading a nation organized along the same hierarchal and totalitarian lines.

another idea: the reactionary violence of the status quo can cause severe
psychological damage to the the revolutionary army. Example: Khmer Rouge
was bombed with over a half million tons. this is going to screw up your
mind and you will become paranoid. these are a few of my theories: Discuss

My name is Mae. That's my grandmother's name, she is a Black woman from North
