Rage at Lollapalooza in 1991 in Chicago?

Hello folks!
I hope all of you are well.
I need help with a timeline thing.
I went to the first Lollapalooza in Chicago at the World Music Theater (had a different name back then) in 1991. There are two things that my memory is convinced of:
1. RATM performed there as a very new, unknown opening act as people were coming in (possibly a last minute act that was unofficial).
2. Their CD was being sold at the event, which my then boyfriend bought.
However, all accounts dispute this possibility, claiming that they did not perform at Lolla until 1993, and that their first album wasn't released until 1992.
I have no idea why my brain has these memories. Does anyone know if this was even remotely a possibility?? I literally haven't seen this band anywhere else, but I have this memory. I can't find any confirmation anywhere. Let me know if I am, indeed, insane.
