Good grief. I agree on Chad and Brad. But I'd throw in Dave Grohl, Jimmy
Chamberlain (Smashing Pumpkins) and Taylor Hawkins (Foo Fighters). hmm,
I'm not sure. There are probably loads more, too. Dave and Jimmy,
though. They are defiantly my favourite ever drummers. yup.

what the fuck is this with stuart cable? okay so he's better musically
than any other member of his band, but that doesn't say a great deal. and
yes i know this is cross-posted to ams. so fucking what...
Brain cells. . .(only joking, the temptation was too much for me. Hehehe.
Sorry).
>it's either neil pert of rush or the dude from tool,
See. . . .Gawd, I absolutely cannot belive that there are still people out
there that utter the name *Neil Pert* Yeah, he was (or is, whatever) a
great drummer. . .technically, but the guy had absolutely no style. He is a
prime example of changing music from an art form into a science. And what
is with having a 500 peice drum set? He needed a friggin' helicopter to
lower him down into it.
>And if you question such a rash statement, please read any drummer magazine
Any guitar mag would state that Steve Vai or Eddy Van Halen is the best
gutar player, but their music. . .well, if I even have to say, then you
wouldn't understand. Therefore, the definition of "Best" is a bit allusive.
>or ask any drummer that can play anymore than a 4/4 beat on his kit.
Well, any drummer that can only play a 4/4 beat cannot really call himself a
drummer now, can he?
>Can
>the guy from blur even play sixteenth notes?
Depends on the tempo. Hehehe Of course, Dave has one of the best drum
sounds you can hear. I think what makes a drummer good is what he
contributes to the band and to songs as a whole, not being able to
generically plud along at 300 rpm's and doing 20 minute drum solos. That is
plain WANK. Although I hardly think he is the best. The best is. . .Reni
(of course). . .or Animal from the muppet show.

These gentleman are seriously the best at their trade...
Yeah there's sloppy-ass Lars for Metallica, who in my opinion sucks, but has
his own style...which I think is most important in drumming.
Dave Grohl is another solid drummer, not sloppy at all...has his own style...
But the first five guys are definitely all around drummers...they can play a
variety of styles...at amazing speeds...
Honorable Mention...any punk drummer

Jaco is awesome, I won't deny that but Victor Wooten is too and you gotta
give him some recognition. I think Morello is amazing on the guitar with
all of the sounds he can make...I don't know if he is the best ever but he
is right up there...same with Ford...he is great but I don't think the best.
Nobody is ever going to be right on this one tho...its all personal
preference.
I'm going to go with Dave Rowntree of Blur.

I think that once you reach a certain level of ability, the word "best" is pretty
useless - they've got enough ability to be the master of their particular style,
etc. For my money, some of these people are:
Jimmy Chamberlin
Chad Smith
Dave Grohl
Larry Clayton Jr (i'm going to look stupid if it's Adam from U2 that plays the
drummer, i've forgotten which is which)
Darren Jessee

Larry Mullen Jr. is also my choice for best drummer. Adam Clayton
plays bass :)
Guto, yeah sure, but Bryan Mills comes n°1 in any top 5 bass players I may
do :)
