Well, I am talking about Subterrean Homesick Alien, I think its maybe
covered....

Well kind of, you see I was going through my parents music collection, and I
found an old Bob Dylan LP, I was kind of shocked because there is a song on
it called "Subterrean Homesick Blues" and I was a bit confused over the
title of course... The songs did not match each other, but the name of the
song.....

I also know Subterrean Homesick Alien was called Up-Tight before being given
a real name...

Well, I understand you may disagree, but if it is a coinsidence then the
words "Subterrean Homesick" have to be much used together... I don«t know
that because I am from Norway and we of course don«t talk much English
here.......

Any comments?

IMO, it's not a coincidence. I don't really know Sub.Hom.Blues very
much, but I think there must be a reference.

I'm convinced that KP draws on Sexy Sadie for content and maybe Alien
draws on Blues in the same way.

I'm off to see if there's a copy of Blues in the house.

I think they got the name from the Dylan song, but it is not a cover of it.

i found a bit in 'coming up for air'[the radiohead biography] written around the
time of the single releases of The Bends...
"on a more positive note, in addition to Lucky, Radiohead started playing some
new material - a rough version of a new song Subterranean Homesick Alien,
described by Yorke as "like the Dylan song, but not"'
so i guess he had the title in mind at least.

Subterranean Homesick Blues was one of Bob Dylan's more popular songs from the
mid-60's...
Had a couple of phrases which apparently became part of 60s pop culture...
"You don't need a weatherman to know which way the wind blows"
and
"Don't follow leaders, watch the parkin' meters".

However, the word "Blues" isn't used in the Bob Dylan title for effect; the
song is in the blues chord progression (I I IV I V I)...Subterranean Homesick
Alien, however, is jazz-influenced (Someone in the band said they were trying to
imitate Miles Davis at the start) and uses some fairly complicated sounding
chords...

The lyrics are muchly different, and the music in Blues is Bob Dylan's usual
clatter...

So I'd say the title "Subterranean Homesick Alien" is just a reference, and
not a take-off or a cover...

but what do i know?

On another note, Radiohead's new documentary "Meeting People is Easy", seems to
be heavily influenced by the Bob Dylan Documentary called "Don't Look Back".
Both movies are amazing, and I'm convinced that MPIE used "Don't Look Back" as a
artistic guide.

The title is no coincidence. They know Dylans music, at least Jonny Greenwood
does. I read this in an interview in a Dutch magazine in 1997 when they gave a
great concert in Rotterdam (yes, I was there and I was blown out of my shoes :-)
G says: "I don't know whether Bob Dylan inflenced our music, but I'm took two
Dylan-albums with me. I think Radiohead sounds as Elvis Costello, but I'm the only
one." (OOR, 1 nov. 1997)

Hardly doubt you're right. If they did do a cover, there would be a credit to
Bob Dylan somewhere on the album, even if it was in very small print.
