I think there's a diference in the Radiohead kind of music and the kind
of Britpop from Suede, KulaShaker and Blur.

Thom's eye has been paralized since he was born. Some doctors tried to
fix it, but it didn't help. I heard that he has five (or more?)
visagists to make up his face before he goes on stage.

Radiohead more or less transcends genre..much like the otherworldly bjork...to
say they were brit-pop would be to try and categorize them when you really
can't..see...the brit-pop artists tend to make radio-friendly hits while
Radiohead strives to create magnum opus-type albums with a central theme and
idea at work. I'd rather have a thoughtful album than a stupid single any day.

Thom had something like seven surgeries when he was a kid, slightly
altering the paralyzed muscles but not completly fixing it.

I'd like to know where you heard about the visagists, because I've never
heard that. Not to toot my own horn, but I was back stage at their
performance at the Tonight Show in 97' and no one was in the dressing
room except for the band and some girl with Johnny and a reporter from
Spin or Rolling Stone...then again, it could have been a visagist
disguised as a reporter.

Anyways, I doubt Thom is that self concious about it.

A quick cut and paste should settle this question, at least as far as I care to
take it. This is from an interview I found at:

http://www.westnet.com/consumable/1997/09.01/intradio.html

Unexpected wakeup calls aside, things are looking good for Radiohead. Their
third LP, OK Computer , debuted at number 21 in the US and easily reached
the top of the charts in their native Britain. O'Brien and Jonny Greenwood,
together with Jonny's brother Colin on bass, Phil Selway behind the drums
and the owner of the breathtakingly lovely vocal contortions -
singer/guitarist Thom Yorke - are Radiohead. The group (who don't consider
themselves part of the 'Britpop' movement), has been playing sold-out shows
across America, performing at venues with names including words like
Theatre, Ballroom and Arena: certainly a step up from the club tours of the
not-too-distant past.

Your 100% right...no one cares, IMHO I think knowing anything more than the
name of the band members is freaky...does it matter if thre 3rd cousin is a
transvestite or if they have a lazy eye, it doesn't matter, only the music
matters...the rest falls into insignificance.

Its easy to catagorise a band, watch.....

Nirvana, pearl jam, Smashing Pumpkins - Grunge
Fugees, Eternal, - Soul
Take that, 3T, Boyzone - Boybands.
Supergrass, Ash, Space, Oasis - Britpop
Spice Girls, All saints - Shite

Thing is having said that, I cant figure out where to put Rh. I know
only that I considered them a pop band for PH, rock band for the bends
and I havent figured out what OKC is.

They are definatly not britpop. They only link they have is in the name
(thier british and thier popular). Britpop defines a style, it is songs
that sing about complete rubish (I should Coco, Female of the Species)
and have a really wierd tune that is catchy for the first 14 days,
repeatitive for the next, and then annoys you for the rest of your life.

If I had to I think Id class RH as the new wave of Rock music (along
with Smashing Pumpkins)

don't know enough about grunge to comment here

Fugees = crap rip off merchent. Eternal = 50% manufactured band who are
very good actually. ( iwuold say that though as I'm on there mailing
list.

wrong. Manufactured Boy bands. You forgot the Seahorses in this
catorgary.

> Supergrass, Ash, Space, Oasis - Britpop

I hate that word.

Spice, yes. All saints, still deciding. I'm slightly on the yes side
after the brilliant interview they did with the NME sayin the Spice Girls
were crap and calling Brett Andererson and Jarvis Cocker Girly.

I always thought it was to put in the 'music' catagory.

that is actually an ace definition of a word I dislike. I never like it
because of the slightly xenophobic (sp?) undertones. Or was that just my
imagination.

Most probobly.

All of these were just examples. Sorry if I offended anyones music
tastes (apart from spice girl fans)

I wouldn't know as I don't like soul much. But I really dislike fugees,
dumb pricks cant even spell properly :).

Sorry. But a boyband is a boy band, manufactured or not. I dont
consider Seahorses to be a boyband.

You consider fitter happier to be music? Sorry. Just playing devils
advocate here.

Erm. What does xenophobic mean? And why have you put smashing pumpkins
next to it. Is this a bad thing?
