If that's true, is it common knowledge ?

Here it is :

There's a little article in the Montreal Mirror this week. It's an
interview with Beta Band member Richard Bandtree. Here's the most
salacious part:

M: So what's your relationship with Radiohead? Have you opened for
them before? RG: No, but, um, Steve and Thom Yorke go back quite a
long way. I mean Steve's not queer but he's bisexual and Thom was a
bit confused about what he was doing for awhile before he met his
current wife, so for about six months they had an on-and-off
relationship. That was about four, five years ago now.
M: Are you serious?
RG: (sincerely) Yeah, they just kept it going and offered us this
tour. It's all over now, they're just good friends, but that's how we
met them. I think Thom might quite fancy Robin, our drummer.
(laughing) He's a pretty young man.

M: Okay. But, musically speaking, do you feel a certain kinship with
Radiohead? RG: Um, no. They come from a very different space. Our
music's
about the lighter side of life rather than the darker side. Well, it's
about the whole spectrum of life. One thing we'd never do is make
music that didn't take
in all aspects of the people's characters who are making it, that is,
music that's purely about misery or purely about happiness or purely
about lying. And
the worst offenders are people like Fred Durst of Limp Bizkit. Where's
the sentiment in their music? It's like, "I'm angst teenager, get
together, hands in
the air, we won't take any more of this, fuck, we're angry." He's not
angry, he's just a fat fuck who doesn't know anything about what he's
trying to talk
about. He ought to keep his fuckin' mouth shut and stop annoying
everyone with his pathetic songs.

The bit about Fred Durst? Yeah, I'd say that's pretty common knowledge around these parts.

Yeah, we've been aware of that for some time on this side of the planet, too.

(Sorry, for the editing in the above quote. My theory about mentioning the
name of the band applies to him personally with 100 times the force)

May I ask _why_ you belive this part about Thom's past sexuality is a
joke? There's never been any real evidence to support the idea that
this beta band guy is actually joking around, while everybody seems to
just dismiss it as such... to me it reeks of people not wanting to
even consider that their pop idol has some things in his past that
they might feel uncomfortable with. I don't find it hard at all to
accept that Thom may have been a little... how do you say... gay, in
the past. That having been said, I also have no reason to belive that
the Beta Band guy was just "taking the piss". I just want to know why
_everyone_ immediatly says it's a joke? Do you have evidence I don't
know about? I'm being totally frank when I ask this, BTW... the
keyboard betrays the connotations of spoken language at times.

Uh, try putting it in context with the rest of what the guy says:

RG: (sincerely) Yeah, they just kept it going and offered us this

THE GUY IS LAUGHING. HE IS BEING FUNNYMAN.

Oh, come on you fucks, Thom is obviously bi, I mean shit, most people with a
fairly open mind are. He may not be as obvious as Mr. Stipe but he
obviously has played in the same league.

It seems kinda fashionable for people to be bisexual now, doesn't it?
How odd. Anyway, the Beta Band guy was quite obviously taking the
piss. The bit where he says Thom might fancy the drummer kinda gives it
away.

Also, if any Radiohead member is gay it's SO obviously gonna be Phil!
:p

Okay thanks. I read it when it first came out (heh) and I took the
little "sincerely" and "laughing" addendumns at face value, meaning
what he said after "sincerely" he was being sincere about, and the
joke at the end about the drummer was just a joke. Why would they put
in "sincerely" if he was being insincere? Oh well, I could legitimatly
see it falling either way.

Well, with the exception of Mr. McArthur... seriosly, I guess I
shouldn't have expected any serious answers, but thanks for the deluge
of clumsy sarcasm and "plonk", whatever the hell that is.....

Actually, that Stipe quote is outdated. He finally came out as gay.
