Does anyone out there know why Radiohead never plays "High and Dry"?
It's a great song, but I haven't heard them play that song in a long
long time... How come?

True. But I'd rather hear High and Dry than The Bends, but I would rather
hear Street Spirit, My Iron Lung, or Just than either one.

Maybe it's just not a fun song to play live. I think everyone needs to
remember that the band should also enjoy concerts. Lets face it the songs on
the last tour are prolly the most fun songs to play in a live scenario from a
musicians standpoint. Even the Fake Plastic Trees from the MSG show had johnny
playing a great guitar accompanyment that sounded more like a chorused electric
piano than a guitar.

I hope not.

It was my introduction to the power and beauty of Thom's voice - even if the
lyrics are a bit crap.

Because it's crusty old. It was written for "Pablo Honey".

It also sucks.

Really? Jonny's phased guitar on fake plastic trees was a fixture at
gigs before The Bends even came out. I thought it was detrimental to the
song myself. That song shouldn't be complicated in my opinion. On the OK
cmputer tour it seemed to have vanished anyway. Didn't know it had come
back.

Coldplay are pleasantly unoriginal, I wouldn't go as far as "great"...

I'd hardly lump B&S in with Coldplay and the others you mention. B&S
just make joyous pop music IMO. I like 'em. True, they're inoffensive
and not very innovative, but they have a formula which works and puts a
smile on people's faces.

People tend to like Colplay/Travis to be trendy, but B&S are anything
but trendy. I don't know what point I'm trying to make here, but it's
just strange that chose to include a band like B&S with rather average
commercial indie bands.

Belle And Sebastian are just as, if not more, trendy as Coldplay and
Travis. Just trendy in different circles. They were one of Salon.com's
hot topics not too long ago, for fuck's sake.

I saw Travis w/Dido in Buffalo, NY...and i had rehearsed with the Invisible
Band and The Man Who before the concert...and i think the opening gig for dido
was a mistake...i sat way in the back because i didnt want to pay for a ticket
upfront because as soon as travis was over...i bounced...and i stood on my
chair and screamed the words...and fran never said anything...and all the
people there were 15 year-old girls and their mothers...turning around
occasionally at me wondering what i was on...bottom line...it seemed as tho i
was the only one there to see travis...so relatively they are still unknown
over here...but they kicked ass...what do you want them to do?...grow their
hair really long and play the guitar like david gilmour?..theyre a pop
band...but thank god they havent sold out completely...the day i see them
chumming it up with carson...then my friends...that is the day i will jump out
of my bedroom window...

its only one story up but, i'll probably break something...and if i dont then
ill run into a wall...and THEN i will break something

i don't really think it matters whether a band is trendy or not
if you like them, that's good, and if you don't, fair enough, but
don't go around having conversations like this:
"<X BAND> are SHIT"
"Why?"
"Because, like, they're commercially successful. And are on Top Of The
Pops and stuff. like. totally."
You're entitled to your opinion but I don't think that gives you the
right to scream abuse at people who like bands you hate.

Bah changing fan bases eh? If you'd have said this on the board 4 years
ago there would have been an outcry. As it is Radioheads fan base has
changed and nobody cares if somebody says High and Dry's crap. I've loved
that song since it came out and now it seems people have decided it was crap
all along. Is it unfashionable to like Radioheads more commercial songs now
or something? High and Dry's hardly their most inventive or inspirational
song but it is a good song. I wonder if in 7 years time Radioheads new fans
will be saying "Knives Out, that was always their crappest song." and the
new fan base will respond with apathy.

Disclaimer: I've nothing against people's opinions I'm just mourning the
death of pre 1997 Radiohead.
