Very sorry to hear about Ted Hall's accident. I saw The Fents when they
first started out playing at Occidental College and then supported other
acts such as Allan Holdsworth. They then played various jazz clubs in and
around LA. I have their two recordings and then never heard from them
since, until I read the two messages on the Internet.
I last heard them at the grand opening of a MIDI/Music store (since
closed) in Tarzana,CA mid '80s. Soon after that I read in Keyboard
magazine that Adam Holzman was playing in Miles Davis band. Have not heard
anything since. Too bad...they kicked like few bands I've heard.
What accident? I cannot access the two posts mentioned. The only
accident I know about is when he broke his right wrist. That was about
10 years ago, when The Fents were still together. He was burning again
by the time The Fents played their last few gigs.

I agree.
The Fents discography:
- "The Fents" (ep record... very rare) had Adam Holzman (k),
Ted Hall (g), Doug Hodges (b), Eddie Morrow (d). It contained
four tunes (i think they were):
Ladsize
Autocide
Duck #5
(I don't remember the other one)
- "First Offense" (live to two track record... pretty rare) had
Larry Anderson replace Eddie on drums.
- "The Other Side" (CD... Passport Jazz is out of business but
you can find it in used bins) had Laurence Cottle replace Doug
on bass and Moyse Lucus (I'm sure I mis-spelled his name)
relace Larry on drums.
Adam's discography:
- The Fents stuff (of course)
- The last few Miles Davis records.
- A Michel Petrucciani CD "Playground" I think.
- "In A Loud Way" (1992) with Dennis Chambers (d),
Mino Cinelu (perc), Kenny Garret (sax) Darryl Jones (b), and
Jimi Tunnell (g). A really great CD. Dennis's playing is
some of the best recorded.
- "Overdrive" (1991) with Steve Logan (b), Van Romaine (d),
Jimi Tunnell (g), and Hiram Bullock (g) blazing on a few cuts.
This was his NY band for a few years: Mona Lisa Overdrive. He
released this record in Japan and Europe with MLO as the name,
but in the states he sold the name to some other band and so
just used his name. In the US it came out this year.
Adam is now living in NY. He is married to Jane Getter (a hot jazz
guitarist), and has a newborn son. After he left Miles's band, he
played with Michel Petrucciani for a few years (he played the synth. in
what was really a jazz trio). Then he played with Chaka Khan. He just
finish producing the newest Steps Ahead record, is doing studio work
(listen carefully to the music in the Cosby Mysteries), and plays
around NY when not on the road with his band (so far Europe only).
Laurence is back in Wales. He played on a Deep Purple CD, an Itchy
Fingers CD "Quark", and lots of other stuff.
Ted got a real job in the film industry (using his ears, of course).
He too is married and has a son.
Doug got a real job as a Porsche salesperson.
I don't know what the other members are now doing, but I sure Moyse is
still playing (last I heard he was touring with Kenny G).
Anyway, I highly recommend Adam's CDs. You can get them at/through any
good record store. They are burners.

Thanks for the updates and discography Michael! I'm glad to hear that
Ted's accident wasn't serious - you know how rumors can be. Is he still
playing? He is a great guitarist, and it would be a shame if he had to
hang it up for a "real job," though having a family to support_is_a good
reason.
I got so desparate to hear the First Offense album that I had to make my
own CD of it. And you're right, both Holzman CDs burn! Also, I just saw
a live Michel Petrucciani CD (1994) with Holzman credited on keys.
Haven't picked it up yet, but will.
I'll let ya know how it is.

I tried to post last week and I don't think it made it out. So here's
an update again.

relace Larry on drums.
Adam's discography:
- The Fents stuff (of course)
- The last few Miles Davis records ("Tutu" for sure).
- A Michel Petrucciani CD "Playground" I think.
- "In A Loud Way" (1992) with Dennis Chambers (d),
Mino Cinelu (perc), Kenny Garret (sax) Darryl Jones (b), and

Ted is fine. Maybe someone mentioned that he broke his right wrist in
the mid 80s, but he is fine now. He was burning again by the time The
Fents played their last few gigs. He got a real job in the film
business (using his ears, of course), is married, and they have a son.
Adam moved to NY while touring and recording with Miles Davis. He
stayed there. He quit Miles's band to focus on his own band (Mona Lisa
Overdrive) and to play and tour with Michel Petrucciani (basically he
was a synthesizer player added to a jazz trio). During this time he
married Jane Getter (a great jazz guitarist currently playing with Lenny
White in the Urbanators). Since then he has toured with Chaka Kahn and
done various other projects including producing the new Steps Ahead
disc. Currently he is playing with his band around NY (they just got
back from touring Eastern Europe) and he is doing studio work (listen
carefully to the music in the Cosby Mysteries). About a year ago, he
released "In A Loud Way" which is a really great jazz/rock disc. This
year, his Mona Lisa Overdrive disc was finally release in the US as
"Overdrive" under his name. This disc has a more prog/rock feel. BTW,
they now have a son too.
Doug Hodges got a real job as a Porsche salesperson.
Laurence Cottle moved back to Wales. He on a Black Sabbath disc
(or was it Deep Purple?), the Itchy Fingers' disc called Quark, and
other studio type gigs.
Last I heard, Moyes Lucas was touring with Kenny G.
I don't know what anyone else is doing.
