What you're looking for is called WipeOut XL (or WipeOut 2097 in europe), by
Psygnosis. It has a soundtrack of many popular groups, such as Chems,
Prodigy, FSOL, etc. Oh, btw, it's a killer game, too. Enjoy!

But of course, as long as the CD tracks of the game are "redbook" audio.
Most are. If not, they you're stuck playing the game. PlayStation CDs are
black (on the bottom...it looks deadly), for copyright protection--*hard as
fuck to copy, that means*. You can listen to the tracks on any CD player,
and I've been know to leave my games in my car from time to time. Some
games' music is brilliant.

SHIT! I wish I read this post earlier, because I was at the mall, and I was
looking at the damn thing! Jeez! I would've remembered, too, but there were
so many amazing girls there, that my brain started to hurt and I blanked
out. There was this one chick that was sooooooooooo hot, but then she picked
up a Chumbawanka CD, and I lost all hope and took off for the arcade. *Sigh*
Of course, I had my CD player with me, and I listened to Crystal Method to
forget my sad experience a few minutes ago. Why can't chicks be smarter? ;-P
I'll go sometime soon and send it to ya. I *now* officially hate malls

If Anybody want's it, here is the track listing for WIPEOUT 2097 (as it
was released in the UK), and another CD Soundtrack, featuring the
Prodigy, WIPEOUT.
WIPEOUT 2097
(Released in '96 on Sony Records)
1) FSOL: We Have Explosive
2) Fluke: Atom Bomb
3) Chemical Bros: Loops of Fury
4) Underworld: Tin There
5) Photek: The Third Sequence
6) Chemical Bros: Leave Home (Underworld Mix1)
7) FSOL: We Have Explosive (Herd Killing)
8) PRODIGY: FIRESTARTER (Instumental)
9) Fluke: V Six
10)Daft Punk: Musique
11)Source Direct: 2097
12)Photek: Titan
13)Orbital: Petrol
14)Leftfield: Afro Ride
Not all of these songs appear in the Games, although it isn't worth
buying if you have a copy of the game. There are some songs in the game
that didn't make it to the CD. The quote in the inlay is also pretty cool.
WIPEOUT
In addition there is a soundtrack to Wipeout (the original Playstation
Game). This also features the Prodigy, but the CD bears absolutely no
resemblance to the music in the game itself. It might be worth a listen,
if you can find it. I picked up a copy in a HMV sale for a fiver. I
haven't seen it before or since, and I think it's German in origin,
because:
a) The Inlay is half in German, Half in English
b) The music is very "Euro" (whatever that means)
It was released in '95 (according to the copywrite info.) on Sony Music
Entertainment. Anyway, heres the track listing:
1) Leftfield: Afro Ride
2) Chemical Bros: Chemical Beats
3) New Order: Blue Monday (Hardfloor Mix)
4) The Age of Love: The Age of Love (Jam and spoon mix)
5) Orbital: Wipeout (P.E.T.R.O.L)
6) THE PRODIGY: ONE LOVE (EDIT)
7) Manic Steet Preachers:La Tritesse Durera (Scream to a sigh)
8) Sunsceem: When (K-Klass/Pharmacy Mix)
9) BB feat. Angie Brown: Good Enough (Gemini's Phychosis Mix)
10)Robert Armani: Circus Bells (Hardfloor Remix)
11)Dreadzone: Captain Dread
12)The Shamen: Transamazonia (Deepdish Rockit Express Dub Mix)
All the information about the CD's is correct, except for possible typo's,
as I have them both in front of me as I write, but the info about the
Games might be wrong, as I don't have a Playstation of my own (so I'm
writing from memory of a mate's copies of both). The situation might be
different in the US or elsewhere.
Hope this is helpful, Pete this in the FAQ if you feel like it. Feel free
to mention me if you do (Hint, Hint ;-) )
Arron, it's getting a bit tedious, Give it up.

Yeah too right. Like, those SNES/Sega carts people pay £40 a time for
- well, I just download one in a 5 minute phone-call, and I'm
laughing.
>>>Hell, most Namco games are, period.
>>I personally don't like big flashy 3D games. I'm a retro-fan.
>WipeOut XL couldn't get any flashier. Made that FlashOut XXXL
hehe... I tried the first WipeOut game at a computer show when it came
out. Well, the music's good, I certainly don't think much of the game!
>>So that's the American Playstation WipeOut that has Cold Storage only?
>Yes, the first Playstation WipeOut game, Cold Storage only. American PC
>WipeOut XL, Cold Storage only. Confused yet?
Yes, because the first Playstation WipeOut game here on THIS side of
the atlantic definitely had Chemical Brothers, Orbital and FSOL on the
soundtrack. I remember playing level 1 with 'Chemical Beats'.
>>Someone told me this - and I'm no Playstation expert - so, is this

Yeah, I've seen that. Very odd. And so are CD-Rs - I just bought one
at the weekend. Deadly gold!
>for copyright protection--*hard as fuck to copy, that means*.
Never knew that! In any case, I'll just record it onto cassette,
hehe... ;-)
>You can listen to the tracks on any CD player,

Is it like some PC CD-roms, where you have to skip track 1 (*) and
listen to tracks 2,3,etc onwards?
* = because if you play it, it can seriously fuck up your speakers,
and your ears if you have it on high volume. And it sounds like a
high-pitched detuned TV - on acid!

Good looking girls do seem to have a taste in shit music.

Hey, if they listen to good music, they're ugly! ;-)
>I'll go sometime soon and send it to ya. I *now* officially hate malls
>because of hot chicks.
I hate malls (known as 'shopping centres' over here) because of
1. Cheesy piped music. (*)
2. Slow moving people.
3. Shopping trolleys block everywhere.
* = actually, last summer, our shopping centre played some chart
music, which made a change - we got to hear Firestarter! That's a
breath of fresh air from all the Val Doonican crap they play.
>>Oh, send that in the e-mail too, if you wanna keep your real name

Ah, silly me... It's not really gonna be a secret if I stick it in the
FAQ! - doh!
BTW, You're in the FAQ as Voodoo, *just for now*.
>Funny...my first name's Tom, and my middle's

Well, there's another Tom, from Norway (Thomas, actually). And there
was a Pete Dean here... hmm!

Very subtle about that, aren't you? ;-)

I used to, but I was made unwelcome by those tractor-elitists from
Denmark. :-)

Apparently I look like Antonia Banderas.

Bit difficult to play, I'd have thought... having to get your hi-fi's
stylus to go round the vinyls hanging on the wall.. :)

Erk!
>WELL....maybe just Tom ;-)
Tom Putnam, hehe... :)
>...I'm *never* going to the mall again without something to write with, and

That's illegal.

Pete...
yet to play that Beck CD with Select.
It depends of what format the music is in, but if it is in the same
format as music on regular CDs (I forget what you call that format),
you can play the music on your CD player. Track one is usually the
game data, but any tracks after that are the music.
This is getting pretty popular with PC games these days..

Completely correct.
You buy Wipeout 2097 and you get a kick-ass game PLUS a great CD. Track 1 is
the game data and doesn't play in the CD player. The rest are all the tracks
played in the game. It doesn't have as many songs as the "Wipeout 2097
soundtrack" which includes some Daft Punk tracks, but it's a great bonus.
The game Loaded also did this. That used PWEI tracks and remixes. I'm sure
there are others as well.
