You wanna know how a musician should treats his/her fans and take advantage of
the Internet?? Take a look at what Maxwell and Columbia Records have done...

Maxwell's latest single, Luxury:Cococure, is from his forthcoming CD, Embrya,
due in stores the same date as NewPowerSoul, June 30. The single was released
to radio, but was indefinitely delayed (a la Prince) being released in the US a
CD single. The CD single was to have 9 tracks - totaling around 45 minutes of
music.

So, with the delay, and fans panicking, what did he do? Released the entire CD
single on his website for free - www.musze.com ! That's right, it's all there -
9 full length tracks in Wav form or Real Audio. These aren't 30 second clips
like the ones we got for Crystal Ball on Lie2OneAnother. There's the regular
Luxury cut, 6 mixes, another song from the new album, and a mix of a song from
his first album. This is awesome - and if this is what having a record company
can do for you as opposed to running things yourself, I say the hell with
"freedom!"

Now, the new music, as well as all Maxwell music, is awesome. If you appreciate
and like Prince's music and the way is reflects everything being done by
himself, you have got to check out Maxwell if you haven't already. I urge
everyone, and especially my Princely people here on AMP to pick up his first
CD, Urban Hang Suite, his live MTV performance, Maxwell Unplugged, and when you
go pick up NPS June 30, don't leave without picking up Embrya too. And don't
forget to check out the Maxwell website - www.musze.com

But what do the fans that don't have computers or internet access get?
Squadoosh.

I hated Urban Hang Suite---boring as all get out. The Unplugged thing was
alright but only because the album it supported was a snoozer. Max and Prince,
at this point, have nothing in common musically. Princes' first two albums
were not as creative and different as the ones that followed. Although for the
time period that they were released not too many of the up and coming R&B acts
were putting "rock" aspects in their music (I'm Yours/Bambi). Maybe Max's
"Embrya" as a whole will be better than that first single, which I think is
nothing to jump up and down about if you have ever been into any of the older
artists like Marvin, Al Green, Isleys Bros, Stevie Wonder, etc.

Joli - Do'in it to ya' in 3-D, so groovy that I dig me

we'll see what happens after Maxwell grows up in the industry. Freedom isn't
about "oh I can give you a 9 track CD single" GET A CLUE!!! Yeah it'd be
nice, but i hope we never see the day when Maxwell's 50 and some Cosmic Sloppy
Joe's chain is using Ascension in its adds...while he sees no money from it.
dammit Burger King and Miller are pissing me off...
