Jarret,

Speaking in tongues is glossolalia, why did you associate Hundalasiliah with
speaking in tongues?

I love your .sig, always nice to see another Marx Bros. fan around.

Re the 'hundalasiliah'/glossolalia idea...It just occurred to me that
"Hundalasiliah" may be a Princified hallelujah, maybe? Similar rhythm,
beginning and end--would fit with declaration of faith in 'I Know'(IMO).

Lovesexy _is_ a very underrated album. I noticed one thing: in the video
for "I Wish U Heaven," there's a gun going off in time to the music. I
nevere really noticed it before, but it seems a little distrubing. Am I
reading too much into this?

Well It all depends on whose idea the gun was. Prince's or the director's (of
course they could be one and the same). Of course just read the title. "I Wish
U Heaven"???; is that literally or figuratively.?? There is only one way to
get to heaven......death.

Of course maybe it's a starters pistol....ready set <bang> GO!!!.

But anyway I agree with you.....I think 'Lovesexy' is one of the best.
'Anna Stesia' is one one Prince's top five ('Little Red Corvette' is on that
list too).

That's funny...my Mom said the same thing. ONCE MORE for old Purdue: I think
"Hundalasiliah" SOUNDS LIKE speaking in tongues, i.e., someone speaking in
tongues may say something like that. NOT the WORD for speaking in tongues.

Okay?

Could somebody post or email me the lyrics to "Rebirth of the Flesh" ?

Thank you for the lyrics. But what does Souli-a-colia mean anyway?
Some say it's Semi-a-colia. Still makes no sense (to me).

Don't forget the "court" in "Positivity" where Prince says:

"Shall the court sing together? ... In every man's life...."

Pure unadulterated GENIUS, both in lyric and melody, and in vocal
phrasing.

True....very true. Though I remember reading the review for the record in
'Rolling Stone' and that's the one song he didn't like. He said it was stuck
there to satisfy the 'Purple Rain' crowd. In a way I understand cause it does
have that 'Purple Rain', feel good closing number feel about it. But it is a
good song.

'Dance On'....is another great song; even better than 'Positivity'. I would
have loved to see him do that one live.

I find it disturbing as well. Prince's use of the 'gun' microphone during his
1993 tour adds to this disturbance. It seems odd that this genius who's
always been described as having "eyes tilted toward s the heavans" would
be comfortable pointing a gun around. Whats most disturbing is the little skit
during the '93 show where the female reporter is stripped of her clothing and
really manhandled. A skit like that would be more appropriate at a Guns and
Roses concert.

I have Prince and the Lovesexy Band rehearsing and they do rehearse Dance
On as if they were going to perform it . While they rehearse Prince yells at
Sheila E. to slow down and play it "like the record" , a nice first hand example
of Prince's infamous tyranny.

Paisly hint: comp Ronny B.

About the gun....At first I thought it was weird that Prince would be carrying
a gun around (albeit a fake one); but I don't think it's meant the way we
think. I think he's saying that a MICRPHONE is his weapon. Remember the line
from 'My Name Is Prince':

"without a pistol, without a gun. when you hear my music you'll be having
fun.."

Remember his gun has a mike at the end....not bullets.

As for the skit..well it's only a joke. Don't give it more meaning than it
has.

The song sounds live as it is already. Prince was on Saturday Night Live
around this time (or so I recall). I forget what he played; but it didn't have
energy and it was pretty tame. I was hoping he would have brought the house
down with 'Dance On'.

Prince was not on SNL in 1988 OR 1990. He appeared in 1989 on the 15th
anniversary special, performing "Electric Chair" with an early version of
the NPG.

Hey, regarding the gunshot thing in this thread...i was listening to
Alphabet St. last night, and heard it toward the very end of the song,
sort of 'in the distance' if you know what i mean...

It made me think (sort of like the guy who commented on eavesdropping on
Prince and his friends) that maybe this is a kind of a statement about
the surroundings/context/environment of the 'real' world...the gunshots
are "out there", but 'U don't have to be afraid, because U're here with
me...' sort of vibe, maybe? I dunno, like a secret garden that is
protected from the urban nasties....

That makes sense. The video has an Eden motif, and we all know what
happened with that.
I still think there's violence on the fringes of Prince's stuff. Maybe
that's a side he has trouble dealing with.

The 25th anniversary show for Saturday Night Live would be in 1999...I think
Prince should be on that one, but you're referring to the 15th anniversary show.
