I was pleasantly surprised to walk into Costco yesterday and see the
new book and CD, "21 Nights." (Normally $50.00, Costco was selling it
for $28.99.) The book didn't impress me too much, as it's just filled
with photos, inspired by his "groundbreaking reign of 21 consecutive
performances at London's O2 Arena during the summer of 2007." I was
hoping they would be photos from those 21 nights, but they pretty much
all appeared to be staged, or posed, pictures. I would rather have
had someone taking pictures during those 21 nights without Prince
knowing when he was being captured, and that way getting a much more
real feel about what Prince's life is like behind the scenes.
The CD is awesome, though I do have few complaints: One, I'm tired of
not getting to hear the artist singing lyrics on live cds. Prince
does this with Girls and Boys and Alphabet Street, having the audience
cover some of them. It ruins the song, and with this cd, you can
hardly hear the audience singing. Second, I knew before I listened to
the cd, that two songs listed, "Delirious" and Alphabet Street,"
wouldn't include the full song, just the beginning lyrics. Finally,
during "Delirious" and the next track, "Just Like U (monologue),"
Prince rambles on about one of his favorite topics, people wanting to
take his picture and him disliking it very much. We've been hearing
this since the 80's, and it's only become more and more prevailent
over the years. We know, already! Get over it, Prince!!!
For Prince fans, the CD is a must-have. Of course, Prince fans know
there are better live CDs out there.

What's the sound like? Is it as overdubbed as the ONA live CD and DVD?
I really don't like Prince's official live CD sound. He messes too much
with it. But then again, I have listened to too much bootlegs and gotten
used to that sound :-)

You're right, it's more the Aladdin DVD and also the Days Of Wild
single, I was thinking about.

Days of wild is a studio recording, only with P's voice, and audience noise.
About Aladdin,...Most of the live dvd's are not 100% real of any artist!
Really? Thought it was live recorded in Montreal.

I know. But mostly they sound better than this one.
Aladdin sounds like the actual live performance at the time...so it's more
real.
