They both have 11 beats to the measure, but "Duchess" is played at a much
slower tempo than "Eleven" and seems to have more of a straightforward
"four" feel to it. My guess would be that "Duchess" is in 11/4...but
"Eleven" is definitely in 11/8.....the other difference between the two
being that Herb's drumming made "Eleven" so much more interesting than
Brain makes "Duchess." *sigh*
Speaking of Herb and weird time sigs, does anybody know where the lyrics
to "19" from the Laundry album can be found online? I found 'em once but
now I can't find the site I was at.
TIA
Very true. But with Ler's guitar playing on every other beat in the 11
format, it takes him 22 beats to cycle through the pattern (2, 4, 6, 8,
10, 12, 14, 16, 18, 20, 22) , so I suppose the song could just as easily
be written in 22/4. Hell, it's anybody's guess.
Isn't the only difference between 11/4 and 11/8 the way you would write
them out? I mean, you could have quarter notes in one measure, but only
have like 4 quarter notes or whatever, or you could have eighth notes in
one measure, but have like 8 of them. Isn't this just a matter of moving
the line that divides the measures?
