I have one question, what do you think is the best Primus song ever written?

I would have to say John the Fisherman. Anyone care to comment?

I think that all the Primus songs are great and there isn't a best
one. so I would have to say that about 3/4 of there songs are my
favorie and the rest of them are just great

one it would have to be groundhog's day.

I'm rather partial to "Over The Electric Grapevine". I'd probably tie
that with "Tommy the Cat" and "Frizzle Fry".

Sorry, I couldn't just pick ONE.

You gotta admit, though... Frizzle Fry is a great fucking song. It's
so... rubbery.

Are you saying that John the Fisherman is a Residents tune. If so, then
you are wrong. John is a Primus original.

>you are wrong , look into the residents

If you are correct in saying that John the Fisherman is a Resident's tune,
then Les has got some major copyright infringement trouble. For you see,
in the liner notes of "Frizzle Fry" you'll notice a little line that
reads: All Lyrics by Claypool and All Songs written and arranged by
Primus except "Michael Malloy"...blah blah blah. Knowing that the boys
are Residents fans, and have covered songs before (Skinny, Constantople,
Sinister Exaggerator) why would they offer no credit to the creators of
John the Fisherman. Are you sure you just didn't look at the Resident
album "Eskimo" and see a song called John the Fisherman on it, and just
guess that it was a Resident's song. Maybe you should look into the
residents.

I would like to add my personal opinion here.
i feel that one of the best songs Primus has done would be Mr. Know-it-all.
True, it starts off kinda cheesy (but then again, most things primus has
done has been cheesy) but it dissolves into one of the most intense thrash
sessions not matched since Jerry was a race car driver.
one thing is for sure, though. their best stuff is their early stuff.

Good choice of tunes, But musically and technically I think that
Tommy the Cat is the best song ever. The sad thing is, Primus never
plays the song live! (As far as I know, and I've seen them several
times) Anyway, that's just my opinion.

Which reminds me! Last time they were in my area they played a new
tune called 'In my Opinion' and it rocked really hard! Has anyone
ever heard it elsewhere?

It was probably "The Heckler" from Suck on This, where Les sings "It's
just a matter of opinion." By the way, there is no way that Tommy the
Cat is the best song. There is little guitar in it. Primus themselves
said that was of their lamer. I am a drummer, so I like all of their songs.

I would agree that their earilier stuff is better. I would have to say that Tales from
the Punchbowl was a weak outing. It just seemed to be missing something. I can't put my
finger on it. One of the few things that I really liked about it was Over the Electric
Grapevine. That is a great song. Other then that I would say that John the Fisherman is
one of my favorites along with Frizzel Fry and Nature Boy. I don't know if there is a
best song, but there are a few very good ones.

My opinion is that Primus has a few good songs - but very many really
bad songs.
Most of the songs I like are on 'Pork Soda', which I think is clearly
their best
album. It has the best bass and drum sounds and the guitars are also
cool on it.

I've got almost everything that Primus has published and I think that Pork
Soda and Punchbowl are the worst albums. Have you heard any of the others?
First three are best if you ask me.

I think Pork Soda may have good sounds and all that but I think the songs
are really depressing. (Read lyrics for Bob. :() Where's all the funny

I don't think Pork Soda is the best Primus album because I 'heard it on
the radio' or anything like that - i have heard them all plus Sausage
and Holy Mackerel and I really think that Pork Soda is the best because
1) most of Primus' good songs are on that album (my name is mud, welcome
to...,
bob, DMV, nature boy, pressman, mr. krinkle)
2) it has clearly the best bass sounds (compared to sailing the seas of
cheese
- the bass is too 'thin' on that album)
But anyway, Laundry's Blacktongue is better than any Primus album;

I don't think one can judge which one is the best. The worst one,
obviously, is Sailing the Seas of Cheese. In the Modern Drummer mag from
the Pork Soda, Herb stated that he wasn't comfortable with his new kit.
He was using two 18" bass drums. That is why the Bass guitar and Kick
Drum aren't that "cool" or heavy sounding. They made Sailing the Seas of
Cheese after their European Tour for Frizzle Fry. There are good songs
on there, but they older tunes that already knew. Some examples would be
Tommy the Cat and Sgt. Baker. Herb switched to two 20" bass drums when
recording Pork Soda, then he finally went back to 22" bass drum with a
double pedal. I think he learned his lesson, not to change what he is
used to. His bass drum sound wicked now. Too bad he is not in Primus
anymore. I wouldn't be surprised to see Herb come back in a few years.
