Greetings,

CHRIS BELL
Book review- a Big Star's short career by Ed Turner
"Essentially an oral history, 'There Was a Light' tells the story of a Memphis teenager who found his life overtaken by the British Invasion. Born into a family of wealth and privilege, Big Star's head anglophile was a Beatles obsessive who happened to possess the musical talent to back up his expensive tastes in vintage guitars and amps."
DOWNTOWN POP UNDERGROUND
NYC suburbs subversives- book excerpt by Kembrew McLeod
"For every band like the Ramones, there were dozens of CBGB acts that didn't achieve wider acclaim, such as the Fast. Both bands shared a similar pop sensibility and emerged from unhip outer-borough neighborhoods (the Fast's bandmates grew up in Borough Park, Brooklyn, while the Ramones hailed from Forest Hills, Queens). Unlike the Ramones--pretend "bruddahs" who adopted the same surnames--the Fast actually were brothers."
SNEAKERS
70's indie rock from NC to NYC by Domenic Maltempi
"Sneakers began playing in mid-'70's, and recorded preciously few tunes. Those that exist are that laudable blend of sophisticated musical structure and pleasant pop sound, that challenges with a punk ethos that didn't need to be broadcast with hair-doos or fake British lip-snarling fashion fatuousness, or any other guise. Sneakers, and its members, simply did not care if they rubbed people the wrong way."
We're always looking for good writers and/or ideas so let us know if you have anything to share.
See you online,
Jason
