I think the dumbest lyrical yet most popular polka is "E-I-O"
"Can I buy a vowel Vanna?"
I'm sure this list will get long -- ::smile::
MS
I was going to mention that one as a close #2 -- anyone remember a
tune called "Everyone Do The La-De-la" Oberek?
Another funny one...
MS
"Worldwide" it might actually be "Who Stole the Kiszka ?," which
in recent years has also become a cult favorite in Europe in various
languages, thanks to the pan-European popularity of Germany's "new
polka"' super group the Polkaholix. ( I think various international
renditions of the number can probably be seen on youtube--If I recall
correctly , in addition to the German and English versions, there is a
Polish-language one there , too--I first saw that on the video service
of the NME European music conglomerate.)
In addition to "Kiszka", several other "crazy" hits by "Uncle
Walter" have been popular for decades , are known to most polka fans
and are periodically covered and revived ; i.e. "Green Parrot" and
"Always in the Way." Whatever the number 1 song in this category may
be, Walt S. is truly the all-time king ( or "clown prince", if you
will) of this polka sub-genre.
WALT SOLEK FOREVER !!!! ^ ^
Jeig...@gmail.com just wrote me mentioning "Pierogi, pierogi: Two for
a Dime" as yet another one of Walt S's hits --- further proof of how
he "rules" in this category - : )
John Pav.
Sat On A Cow Polka!!! I wonder what the english translation is to that
tune!
Oh the bartender the bartender he's a jolly scout, takes your money,
gets you drunk then he throughs you out. Is he a man, is he a mouse,
it's time we had one on the house.
I know a girl big and round, she's the biggest girl in town, she's got
a dimple on her knee and she shows it just to me,
I get up early and work hard all day, when I get home my wife takes
all my pay, one day I got home about quater past three, I thought the
house fell down on top of me.
I don't give a darn, I don't do no harm. I live in a little shack,
right along side the rail road track, I don't own a Cadillac, but I
don't give a darn
My wife and I we live all alone, oh what a life, oh what a life, she
eats the meat and throughs me the bone, oh what a life, oh what a
life, my wife and I we just can't agree, she thinks that money just
grows on a tree, oh what a life, of what a wife.
I don't got plenty money but I got it plenty fun. My wife she works
hard all day, I walking in the sun, I don't got plenty money but I got
it plenty fun.
It happened to me in Shamoken, it happened in other towns to, what
happened to me in Shamoken, this shouldn't happen to you. I met a
girl in Shamoken, I feel in love from the start, when she honey, you
got any money, I said it was time to depart.
...how about "Hey Baba Reba", or "she likes kielbasa better than
fish", or the ever-popular Lover oh lover with "wah-wah-wah-oj-de-di-
di-di?"
It's about a Polish soldier too afraid to go into battle against the
Bolsheviks (late 1910's/early 1920's), so instead of sitting on a
horse to charge into battle.... he sits on a cow.
I'd have to go with "EE-I-OH" myself.

HONKY EXPRESS
Right on , Troy: Excellent concise analysis of that unusual,
historically-based song---and it saves me the trouble of writing a
much wordier, more ponderous translation, which I was about to do ^ ^
--- A+ work ! (That's the teacher in me reacting -:) )
Yesssssss !: Thanks for this "work-intensive-looking"
compilation, John ,which certainly offers a lot more proof in support
of the view that Walt S. is the all-time leader in this polka style.
Maurice, Don't Do That, was a funny song which won a award by The
Happy Harmony Boys in 1988 or so...Those lyrics were funny, but I
wouldn't put them into the category as 'dumb'...
Give credit to Joe Rogers for finding that tune back then!!!
Really was goofing around putting this one on youtube, and it turned
out to be the most popular with almost 35,000 views to date
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XtmuXWCFQzE
There was a bandleader from western Mass. that cornered the market in
"dumbest polka titles". His name was Ed Podolak, one of the honkiest
bands to ever come out of New England at the time. Some of his tunes
that come to mind include: Boop the Coop, Blazing Smoke Stack, The 10
Inch Cucumber, Behind the Bushes Oberek, Orange Soda and Vodka, and
last but certainly not least, With My Hand In My Poat Cocket Leaning
On a Rass Brail Polka. Unbelievable, but the band was cookin'!
To everybody interested in this "dumb, but popular" sub-genre, I just
received a CD you should have-- I suspect that it's the ultimate
compilation of such numbers :It's "Laughing Polka and Waltz
Favorites" ( Polka Casettes of Nebraska Label ) , and can be purchased
online on their site: Polka Catalog.com.: Lucky me, I got a
complimentary copy as this company has done some recording work for us
recently -- This 18 song collection includes several "biggies"
mentioend above ( Kiszka, In the Way. Too Fat and "Maurice", as well
as a surprising number of really hilarious renditions by a variety of
bands from the "deep Midwest" (Nebraska, Minnesota, etc.) which I for
one find quite irresistibel: I "heartily" recommend "Waltz Across
Waltzmart with Checkbook in Hand" , "Bell of the Ball" and "Fake It"
by the Polish Kid ,"Ladies Put out Your Cans"' ; theStinky Cheese
Polka ( to the tune of Miala Baba Koguta?Lady Had a Rooster; the IRS
Polka (timely and riotous) by Gil Krajnik ; All About My Peanut ( to
the tune of "Peanuts") and virtually everything on the album---Oh,
yes, there's "My Fanny", too and Poopsie Polka ---so many worthy
additions to the list on this thread---and last ( no. 18 of 18 on the
album) but far from least ---in fact this might be the greatest ( that
is, the "dumbest" popular number, as Mikeput it) of all : the LAUGHING
POLKA ( remember that blast from the past?) in a truly over-the-top
version by Minnesota's "Chmielewski Funtime Band." ( By happy
coincidence this number was featured on the Big Joe Show last night --
so anyone who caught that show could enjoy it on tv, as well ---The
"Laughing Polka's" chorus may be the absolutely happiest ( and, at the
same time, silliest ) piece of popular music in existence---but then,
as we're seeing on this thread, there's a lot of competition for this
distinction. In any case, I strongly feel that this is an album well
worth having --- I had heard about it , and seen it advertised on the
Big Joe Show, but never would have spent money on it ( I assumed it was
too dumb) :Once, by good fortune, I got a copy anyway, I saw that I
was wrong, and marvelled at the laughs and sustained "natural high"
that it gave me. It would certainly make a good ( and funny ^ ^)
novelty gift, too---so , to paraphrase the (admittedly dated, haha) Lil
Wally/Jay Jay slogan: "Be happy and gay with Polka Cassettes of
Nebraska" -- I don't think anyone would regret spending an hour, or
even much more time, with this collection.
