There were a lot of great bands out there that are no longer around
anymore. I was curious as to know what everyone's favorites are?
Here's a list of some great past bands that I love:

The Beat
The Knewz
The Switch
Prime Drive
Energy
Limelite
Jimmy Weber & The Sounds
Polkatown Sound
Lenny Gomulka & Chicago Push

Of course, there are many other ones that I can't think of at the
moment. And then there are those bands that everyone can swear by
that they aren't around anymore but then you find out that they are.
Then there's the bands that are still around but don't really play
anywhere around your area and haven't had a new album out for years so
who knows if they are still (really) around. It's just really
confusing if you know what I mean.

I also wanted to bring up some bands that had some really great albums
out before like Polka Country Musicians and Polka Family. Their older
albums have turned gold! I just found some old tapes the other day;
Fiddlin' Man and Back In Town by PCM and some old ones by Polka Family
including Beach Party. It brings back some good memories! Who cares
if the albums are not up-to-date quality or were recorded in a garage;
the point is it's old and it has that old sound to it, and now the
bands still reign on high! I also popped in some old video recordings
of bands. I have this one of Polka Country in '92 at the Birchwood
Polish Fest in Wisconsin. It's so cool to see them with two
concertinas playing all the classic songs. Then to see the band
change over at the end to play some rock songs. Now those where great
times and they still are! I'm grateful for the opportunity to see
some of these great bands and musicians. Now I have some memories to
share to my children in the future like my parents with me.

I remember a band called the "Polka Shamrocks" from New Jersey. That
band had so much energy and were a lot of fun to watch and listen to.
Also "The Boys from Baltimore" also had a lot of great songs.

Yes Yes
I remember some of those bands too. I'll have to look in my record
collection again to find more. The Keynotes where one of my
favorites. I was just listening to The Michigan Connection on my way
home from work to add to that. I also starting to convert The
Canadian Fiddlestix record on to CD. Does anyone remember Rogers and
Friends? They where from Pulaski, WI. I have one of their records, I
should make a CD out of that one too. Or what about The Jolly Harmony
7? I think I have an 8-track by them. I'm going to try and hook up
my 8-track player in my car, that would be cool! Now 8-tracks should
definetly make a come back! I have mostly ones by Lil' Wally and
Blaz. I just love listening to all these old bands because they have
some of the greatest styles of music, and I love that old sound! I'm
kind of looking in to getting a reunion band for a future dance. So
if anyone has suggestions or advice, send them my way. Thanks

Becky

I seem to be a lot older than most of you guys, because when I think of
polka bands from the past, I think of "Whoopee" John Wilfahrt, or the Six
Fat Dutchmen. To me, Frankie Yankovic is recent, as he just died in 1998
after making his last recording in 1997.

You're going pretty far back for a "youngster" like me Hank, but I do remember
hearing Frank Gubala. In fact my Dad was his Accordion teacher. I also knew
Tony Graiko, who played horn for the Warszawska. I played with Tony's son Rick
for a few years back in the '70's.

You got me on the other two.

Happy New Year to you Hank, and all the other great New England Polka People
from Sunny Arizona. See you at Polka Jam in July.

I remember Little Wally, Marion Lush, Eddie Zima, Steve Adamczyk, Ampol Aires, Little Richard, Eddie Blazonczyk, Johnny Hyzny, more I can't remember now. Little Wally recorded his earliest records in my great aunt's attic - the sound was very distinctive. My memories go back to the early 50's. Including dancing with my Dad at every picnic, dance, and wedding I was allowed to attend. Those are all great memories. Thanks for letting me share. - Christine B.
