I sent an arrangement of Zosia to a friend's polka band in Tucson. Now
they have asked for English lyrics. I don't think I have heard English
lyrics for Zosia. Does anyone know of any? Does anyone have them?
Please send.

Thanks,

Claude

Hi Claude, I don't think sucha translation exists, it is easy to do bu
it won't make sense or flow like the original. Unless you use a
different story like:
Sophie was sweeping a house and she came accross a mouse etc..... ha

John, that's so great as I remember when years and years ago you gave
me a synopsis of the song as I hadn't a clue. I know I have that
email somewhere still.

I'll try to wing it, haha ( although I'm gonna leave the mouse out
of my version : The little devils bug me and I recently had to use
"Mouse-Away" ( It did the trick by the way--Just repels them doesn't
kill them ) to chase them out of my attic):

Zosia, Zosia, took a broom and swept the kitchen
Then she, then she, called up Matt ( Rosinski maybe?) , a young
musician
(Repeat those two lines)
Matthew , Matthew, come and help me with the cleaning
Then I'll, then I'll, treat you good--You get my meaning?
( Repeat those two lines)
Mama, mama came home late, turned on the light and
Then she , then she , saw a really naughty sight
(Repeat those two lines)
Matthew, Matthew, what on earth are you two doing?
Mama, mama , we're just lyin' down, no fooling
( Repeat those two lines)

John, I had no idea the "calujecie" means what you said.
Now when many years ago my future mother-in-law asked what I was doing
with her daughter and I said my tylko calujecie, and she looked
disgusted, now I know why.

Thanks friends. Especially for coming up with new English lyrics. I
knew that a translation would not work. I'm glad you had fun with it.
I'll work on it and get something to the "Bouncing Czechs" in Tucson.

Gratefully yours.

We got so wrapped up in the fun of this song that I forgot there was a
serious request for a translation so here goes:

Sophie, Sophie, Sophie, swept the kitchen
And Mat, and Mat, and she called Matthew
Sophie swept the kitchen, and she called Matthew

Mother, mother, mother, lit the lamp
And Mat, and Mat, and she saw Matthew
Mother lit the lamp and saw Matthew

You Mat, you Mat, you Matthew, what are you doing
So that, so that, so that, Sophie you are kissing
You Matthew what are you doing so that Sophie you are kissing

Now that the Krupnik drinking with Eddie Biegaj has passed through the
system, a sober second look at my lyrics would substitute "turned on
the light" instead of the archaic "lit the lamp".

There is a song with the same melody called the Krupnik song by rare vintage I recommend it
