Just made my first steps in the world of Placebo with their most recent
album... Excellent. I'm quite impressed. Should I get their other three or
is the new album not representative of their previous work?

Thanks all.

Cheers,
Etienne

It's representative, but the other albums do all have a different feel. I think
someone put it quite well comparing the self-titled to an orgy, wyin to a
regret-filed next morning, and bmm as being like stepping out into the street
and saying 'hey, there's worse things going on out here - time to get a grip'

although were swg fits in i don't know. damn. well, it /was/ a good analogy,
before my brain mangled it and a new alubum broke the pattern :P

personally, i love the evolution. i'll happily listen to all of them,
chronologically. so yes, get the other albums. entirely subjective, but my
preference runs wyin, s/t, bmm. not sure yet where swg fits in, yet. i think i
prefer it to bmm. it needs some time to settle, become part of my life. :)

sorry, that was longer than i expected. hope it helped some.

I think this album is most like "Without You I'm Nothing," which I
think you need if you love this album. The first album is also good,
though a little more raw and punky for the most part. Get that after
you fall in love with "Without You." Finally, do get "Black Market
Music" one day, but understand it's an inconsistent album that most
fans were somewhat disappointed with. It definitely has some amazing
songs on it, though, and should not be completely disregarded due to a
couple of songs that just aren't up to Placebo par.

By the way, welcome. We're a weird bunch and often off topic, but it's
a fun group, anyway.

:)

Well thank you. I'm really a newbie to Placebo so I doubt I'll be able to
comtribute much outside my likes and dislikes for now! lol But I'll still
try :oP

It sure did. Thanks. I'll get the other albums in time for sure. I really
love the new album (minus a couple songs :oP).

See you around,

I agree! This album is fantastic and is a great comeback after BMM (imho).
It strikes me as a more mature version of WYIN (one of the best albums of
all time!), and brians voice has grown so much more defined now! I couldn't
be happier with it!

There! Rant over!

Hello Mikey,

A certain mutual friend told me you've been out of the country for the tour
so far, are you gonna be able to make it? It'll be a bummer if you can't
they've been bloody marvelous so far.

James

Hey James!

Yeah, we've been in europe recording again. I'm back now but the tour is
pretty much sold out. I was hopin ghtat they'd turn up at one of the
festivals (I heard a rumour that they were playing download - but the don't
seem to be) but no joy so far!

Ah well, No Placebo for me this year :-( this makes me a sad panda !

It appears that Leeds / Reading is the likihood from Brian's been muttering
on stage.

My stalkage of the band comes to an end on Thursday unless I manage to get
myself guestlisted elsewhere which seems unlikely. Oh well, it's been fun
:-)

Totally agree there, although I suppose to be happier with it, it'd have to /be/
WYIN, which would be... unfortunate. They couldn't stagnate, but I still think
Without You is the best album they've ever made.

Hmmm. Apparently there's going to be another version, entirely in French. Looks
like two copies for me then :)

Heh, me as well.

I'd need it because that's the kind of music collecting dork that I
am.

It took me a long time to get the French "Burger Queen" single, but I
hate having incomplete collections of bands I like. :)

they're going to make a french version of "protect me from what i want",
maybe on the second single "this picture".

Music collecting dorkness is great.

I still haven't finished rebuilding my Placebo B-sides collection since I lost
them all in a massive HD crash. Annoyance.

my opinion is that the purspense of this discussion is flawed, the great of music is chatrooms the sound of the typed word is that of dissonance, therefore forget this discussion and make for the hills make your day pleasant.
