According to Howard Stern, Eddie Vedder is Jewish. Does anyone know if this
is true. Just curious...

You are absolutely right, it doesn't matter. However, I have guessed
that Beth may be Jewish mainly because of her hometown (Skokie) which
is principally Jewish. Not a great reason, I admit. However, someone
once posted here that her parents went to church with Karen Vedder, and
named the church as a Protestant one in Rogers Park (Chicago
neighborhood). My own opinion is that Beth is Jewish, EV is or was
raised in a Protestant faith. He may have converted to Judaism due to
Beth's influence, of course.
This is only what I have surmised, I must repeat.

Eddie Vedder is not jewish, i don't think he's anything. Beth may have
been jewish, but who gives a damn. First you tell me Bob Dylan's a jew,
now this, what's wrong with you guys. I know it would make you feel good
to know that Eddie was a jew, but well, he's not. And if you believe one
word out of Howard Stern's mouth, your a real moron.

If it doesn't make a difference then what's wrong with an answer?

I mean, really, ANY of the questions here make no difference, its all for
curiosity..is it such a horrible thing to want to know what faith Ed is? or
anything along those lines??

Someone was simply asking a question.. the only response you get is "does it
matter", or "who cares".. obviously the person who asked the question wants to
know..

It's as if people are deffensive for no apparent reason..

i highly doubt ed's a jew.

liebling's a jewish name, though.
maybe he's supporting beth.

when did stern say this?

Well, for that matter, what does it matter what someone else thinks of
Yield? All that really matters is what you yourself think of it. So why
is everyone posting their reviews? Who cares?
You are right, I don't know why it happens on this ng so often that
when a person poses a question out of curiosity, someone else tells him
or her that he/she has no business asking that question. Surely the
answer to every question about PJ is not "who cares? all that matters
is the music." As others have pointed out, it isn't all that matters
and it isn't all that people wonder about.

I don't think Eddie is Jewish, but I've long thought Beth may be--at least born
into a Jewish family, if not actually practicing. (although if the "you" in
Wishlist is her, what the heck is a Jewish girl doing decorating a Christmas
tree?).

But I wonder, is Jack Jewish? The fact that there is apparently a concentration
camp picture with his song makes me wonder. Also because he did grow up in the
Fairfax area of LA, which is very Jewish, and he was childhood friends with
Hillel Slovak, who was Jewish as well.

And no, ultimately it probably doesn't matter but nothing's wrong with a little
arcane knowledge.

Aw, that doesn't mean anything. One of my closest friends, who was my
roommate in grad school, is Jewish and she always had a Christmas tree
and decorations up the day after Thanksgiving. It doesn't matter what
faith you are, you can decorate just because it's fun.

I can't be certain of course, but I doubt very much that the picture
accompanying his song is one of a concentration camp. The band is too
"PC" to be making jokes about it being Jack's house if it were. It
looks like it cold be the back side of a prison, a warehouse, a
detention center, anything.

JESUS! Jewish people are so funny sometimes. I mean, what
difference does it make what religion Jack Irons or Beth or Eddie are.
First of all, i don't think Eddie believes in any organized religion...he
even said so in an interview, saying religion reminds him of war, but he
does believe in a God. Ok, thats that. But onto Jack Irons, your pretty
silly to think that because YOU thought that was a concentration camp that
he's jewish. Jeff took all the pictures ok...so maybe he's jewish. Hey,
there's one picture with a mosque on it with minarets, so maybe Jeff's
moslem, oh, theres that song Tremor Christ, so eddie must be christian, oh
wait, how about satans bed and red mosquito, eddie must be satanic, or
wait, how about Not for you when he says "hit the truth like Muhammad" he
must be moslem. Listen Mr Adam Sandler or whoever you are, why do you need
Jack to be jewish or beth?, just to make you feel good about being a jew.
I know how you think, oh, if eddie or beth are jewish, or hell, anyone in
pj, then well, being jewish will be considered cool. Well, just be happy
being a jew if you are and you like being a jew, what concern is it if
Eddies jewish or lefthanded for that matter. It doesnt matter. Myself, i
don't even know what a jew is, i mean, some people say Sammy Davis Jr was
jewish or Whoopi Goldberg is. Then i have some jews tell me that they
can't be jews because judaism is a Cult basically, or tribe you might call
it that you have to born into, which itself doesn't make sense. Listen to
his music and be happy. -- Asim Khan

What does it matter? Eddie would be just as cool if he was jewish. And by
the way, Bob Dylan is Jewish. His real name was Robert Allen Zimmerman. He
converted to christianity, and released 4 albums with such subject matter.
Although I believe later he returned to judasm.

It has to be a concentration camp, I've seen other pictures of camps that
have identical photos.

Besides, on the facing page, there's a picture of a Jewish graveyard. Look
on the tombstones-- Hebrew. If if they aren't Jewish, they must have been
struck by these images enough to include them in their album...

Okay, I have been lurking on this group for a long, long time and usually I
just ignore this kind of thing. This time I feel compelled to ask...am I the
only one offended by this post (the one below)?

>
>JESUS! Jewish people are so funny sometimes.

First of all, why are Jewish people funny? I have read some of the posts on
this topic and I doubt that everyone is a Jew.

I mean, what
>difference does it make what religion Jack Irons or Beth or Eddie are.

It doesn't "make a difference" in that it will change whether someone will
listen to the group or not (at least I hope it doesn't make that kind of
difference). As has been pointed out before (and much better than I can do
here), the only "important" things are the actual songs. However, everyone
(including you I would hazzerd to guess) is also curious about the people
who make that music. Hence questions about religion, eating habits, sexual
preference, and who knows what else. Without this curiousity we wouldn't
need this group really (how many posts can you read of "like the new album,
man"?)

>why do you need Jack to be jewish or beth?, just to make you feel good
about being a jew.
>I know how you think, oh, if eddie or beth are jewish, or hell, anyone in
>pj, then well, being jewish will be considered cool.

Did anyone here say that they "needed" any of these people to be Jewish, or
anything else? Does anyone "need" them to be Catholic, lefthanded, short,
blond, etc.? And if they were any of those things, does it make it "cool"?
It was an idle question orginally, and I have not gotten the impression from
ANYONE that it makes a life-altering difference to anyone (or did I miss the
post where someone said they'd change their faith if Eddie was Jewish?)

Myself, i
>don't even know what a jew is, i mean, some people say Sammy Davis Jr was
>jewish or Whoopi Goldberg is. Then i have some jews tell me that they
>can't be jews because judaism is a Cult basically, or tribe you might call
>it that you have to born into, which itself doesn't make sense.

Perhaps you need to learn a bit about Judaism before commenting on the topic
so much (I would hesitate to make comments about most religions for the very
fact that I know so little about most of them). Maybe it is coming from a
place of ignorance on the topic, but you sound a bit anti-semitic to me.

In any case, I still don't quite understand why many people who post
questions here get taken to task for it. When did this group become so PC
and humorless? It didn't used to be that way and I, for one, miss the
friendly atmosphere that existed when I first started reading. It seemed you
could ask all kinds of silly questions (like...what happened to Mike?) and
people would respond (mostly) with an answer, without all the sarcasm
(well...okay. Sometimes good-natured sarcasm), and meanness.

Done ranting now. Sorry if this post, too, has offended people.

I think that with the new album, single, and all the rest of the new PJ stuff
and advertising and stuff, we are getting a new bunch of posters here. Lot of
trolls, and they will lose interest in PJ after it's not "the new thing"
anymore. Also lots of 13 year olds, who seem to think it's cool to flame
someone.

This video is a response to the trick repeatedly used against this channel in channel comments. It's the standard tactic of calling someone "anti-Semitic" for criticizing Israel. The smear is used to sabotage anyone who speaks out against the U.S. government policy of supporting immoral and illegal Israeli policies which violate basic human rights. And as you can see, this person suggests using a new word for the same old trick.

Amy Goodman interviews a former Israeli minister and she helps expose this trick used against dissidents, the defamation tactic of calling people "anti-Semitic."
