I picked up a guitar legends magazine a couple of days ago... actually I
picked it up yesterday when i went to get the new tea party album.
the top three are...
1. Stairway to Heaven - Led Zeppelin
2. Eruption - Van Halen
3. Freebird - Lynyrd Skynyrd

Mike McCready picked up a few spots on the list.
44. Alive
and one that caught me by surprise...
95. Yellow Ledbetter

amazing how a b-side, a relatively rare song compared to the rest of the
songs of the list, make a list like that. another great reason why i love
pearl jam so much. fantastic!

ciao

I saw that. He has other great solos as well. I love his "Even Flow" solo.
He is SO GREAT!

Eddie Van Halen.

Slash played on Black and White I think.

thought it was eddie van halen that played the solo. i could be
wrong, but i think i read that somewhere, plus i always kinda
associated it w/ evh. i'll be the 1st to admit that i might be wrong
on this tho...

nope, you're right, it was EVH originally on the album Thriller

Slash did in fact play the beat it solo at the Jackson reunion concert last
month though. He said he didn't even try to copy Eddie's, basically just
gave it his own spin on it.

No, you're right, it was definitely Eddie Van Halen. It was far too
early in the 80s to be Slash.

Thanks man, great list. I didn't see Kim Thayil from Soundgarden on the
list, although he definitely warrants it over The Stray Cats Strut or
Truckin'. Jerry Garcia was a lot of things, but I wouldn't say 'great
guitarist' is one of them. Good to see Billy Corgan make some headway,
because he's definitely underappreciated in his musical ability. Peter Buck
could have made the list with What's the Frequency Kenneth or Let Me In,
that's for sure.

Surprisingly enough, Jimmy Hendrix carried the list, I would have never
guessed such a thing. RU Experienced will still enthrall in 100 years.

Regards,

John

PS: Not enough Pearl Jam on the list, McCready should have been ahead of
Cobain too. Cobain broke the grunge fever in 1990, so he was the first, but
definitely not the best.

I can't believe Bulls on Parade is so high. Or Smells Like Teen Spirit.
That's really NOT a very impressive solo. mimics the vocal line
verbatum...not technically hard in any way...what's the big deal w/ that
one? My fav's still Comfortably Numb.
