all the 2001 concert tallies and a conversation i just had about first
concerts with sheri made me wonder:

whats the first concert you ever saw, and the last concert you ever saw.
might be interesting to measure one's growth musically that way...changes or
non changes.

me first:

first ever concert: the jackson five victory tour in 1984. i was 13.
most recent concert: groundwork at key arena, pearl jam in particular. i'm
30.

well...i still pay to see five guys work it out onstage.
and i would still go see the jackson five...i'll never get sick of abc, the
love you save, i want you back, i'll be there, ben, etc. tho i wish i could
turn back the clock for michael. i wonder if he could do it over if he would
still do this to himself.

now you.

My first concert was a Summer Jam with Rick Derringer, Styx, Steve Miller Band
and Peter Frampton. This was during the FRAMPTON COMES ALIVE frenzy. It was
around 1976 and I was about 14.

I saw 2 outdoor concerts this past summer. The first was Bad Company and Styx
and the second was Jackson Browne and Tom Petty.

Guess I am still into that 70's rock.

By the way I saw the Jacksons Victory Tour as well. I was alot older than 13
though!

First concert: Pearl Jam, I was 15
Last concert: They Might Be Giants, free school show.
Last concert I paid to go to: Ben Folds, I'm 18 now.

So I guess I've gone from those grunge guys to more sophisticated piano music
:)

My first concert was AC~DC in 1988. I was 16
I was not into music at all. Didn't listen to the radio what so ever ,
didn't own a tape player.
A really cool aunty of mine had a spare ticket to a big AC~DC show in
Melbourne
and convinced me to go so as not to waste her ticket. I so did NOT want to
go.
Took her ages to convince me. . . . well needless to say after not being
into music at all ,
and then witnessing a full blown AC~DC concert I was converted. It was
awesome.
Within a week of that show I had bought a tape player and every tape AC~DC
had released :-)

Of course over the years my musical taste has evolved for the better :-P
Hundreds of CD's and many many live shows later .........

Last show I saw was REM at the Croc with Ed :-).

Makes me wonder what would have happened if I never got dragged along to
that first concert.......

Oh dear. My first concert was Shaun Cassidy in...I want to say 1978
but that can't be right because my grandmother wasn't alive. Maybe
1980. I'd have been about 9 years old.

Most recent concert: Ryan Adams, October of this year. Much better
than Shaun Cassidy. :)

No, I did not like my last concert very much, so it doesn't say
anything:
I started at a indoor festival for Children, with bands like the Golden
Earring and Het Goede Doel (Dutch), in the late 70's or early 80's. My
last one was The Tea Party.

to one before Lauren Hill....and the Barenaked Ladies back in 1999, but who
was it dammit! ermm........ok, I actually:

FIRST (official...like i mean I paid to go)
Barenaked Ladies - Wembley Arena 1999. I would have been 15...i'm pretty
sure that was it, but I have a feeling that it wasa different gig I went to,
like with my dad at Wembley...but oh well :(

LAST
This one will be pretty tough to forget, it was New Found Glory/Fenix TX/RX
Bandits - Rock City 17th December 2001....this was insane....a brilliant,
brilliant gig. I'm seeing incubus and Jimmy Eat world in the next
month...so WHOO!!

knitting... or something. the list:

mudhoney
eric johnson/derek trucks
jerry cantrell
jeremy toback 5x
string cheese
clapton/doyle bramhall II
black crowes
james taylor
john mayer
bridge school
brad
mark lanegan

i've left out many smaller shows. the best is obviously bridge school.
probly clapton next & then james taylor. it's hard to beat guys with
such extensive repertoires. next jeremy toback's shows combined. maybe
brad & jerry cantrell next and then the rest.

first concert i ever saw... well let's exclude the children's
performers that would come to my school or events i may have gone to
with my parents and skip to the first rock show i ever went to...

i bought brad tix from ticketmaster before i was 21. the guy at tower
didn't say anything about age. maybe the next day, i noticed that they
said "21 & OVE". at first, i didn't get it. is that an intersection?
does it mean 21st Ave? but i figured it out and went back to tower.
the same guy tried to get them refunded but the venue wouldn't allow
it. he didn't take the rap for it though, he told them someone else
had bought the tickets for me. so i went to the show and tried to just
walk in but obviously that didn't work. luckily we sold the tix to
somebody. we stuck around and listened from outside and got autographs
afterward. the next day i went to an all ages brad show. i think this
was still before the no smoking indoors in CA law took effect so that
was kind of a bummer but the show was awesome.

the last show i went to was mark lanegan. see my post from a couple
days ago about it. the show before that was brad. so i guess i like
the same music as i did when i started going to shows i.e. got a car.
but also much more.

god, this really makes me feel old, but what the hell, it's life!

first band i ever saw (eddie was in diapers - picture that! =) hell,
most of pj weren't even born!

1st band -the animals (not eric burton and the animals, but the
orignal animals!) 'house of the rising sun' was on every jukebox.
summer of '65 l.a. sports arena (i was very young ;P i won't say who
they opened for...way too embarrassing ....second concert -buffalo
springfield...where i fell for neil

last concert - 'brad' in portland a few weeks ago. but bridge and
groundwork before that.

hundreds of great bands and musicians in between (too many dead, but
many still kicking) music is amazing!

First was GN'R, Skid Row and Rose Tattoo at Eastern Creek Raceway in 1993
when I was 12. Walking around with three mates amonst an 80,000 strong
crowd was a big intro into the live music experience for me.
Last was Powderfinger at the Horden in October, awesome show!!

My first concert was Def Leppard/Queensryche way back in October 1988 for
the "Hysteria" Tour at the Wheeling Civic Center in Wheeling WV. I was 16
and I still have a great memory of it. They were doing the whole "In the
round" thing so no matter where you sat you had a great view. I thought that
it was the coolest thing at the time.

Most recent was Jerry Cantrell at "M" over the summer here in Pittsburgh or
maybe Aerosmith/Fuel at Starlake. Missed quite a bit of shows I wanted to
see, dissapointing concert year for me.

My last was Ian Hunter at a small club in Greenwich Village .
I'm fortunate enough to have lived in NYC in the 70's.
I remember seeing Hall and Oats in Central Park then heading downtown
to see Patti Smith. Those where the days of early and late shows.

First concert was Paula Abdul (sp?) when I was young, like 11 or 12 I think.
I went with my mom. Last concert was Ben Folds solo in NY 3 weeks ago. In
between I've seen 23 Pearl Jam shows, 10 Counting Crows shows and a whole
lot of other great memories. Happy New Year.

OK, I'll throw in here. The summer I turned ten, which was waaaaaaay back in
1995, my dad took me to see Ringo Starr and His All Starr Band. I saw them on
their most recent tour this past summer, too.
The last concert I saw was- gag- at a Hard Rock Cafe, on Wednesday night. I
have a friend who is in a band called Slantwise, and I went to check it out.
However, I had to suffer through a Staind cover band called Craizd, I think.
Then, there was this industrial metal band that covered NIN's "Head Like a
Hole," Limp Bizkit's "Break Stuff," Korn's "Freak on a Leash," and Rob Zombie's
"Dragula" all in the same set list. And they only played about eight songs.
Really! Who dedicates half of their setlist to playing intensely boring covers?
Whatever, I didn't even get to see Slantwise because they went on at one a.m.
and that turned out to be my curfew. So I missed that. Bummer.
The last concert I went to that someone here would know as a recording audience
was Jane's Addiction and Live. Live was great. Sheesh, I don't even want to
think about Jane's Addiction, though. Too many bad memories.
