Yeah, I'd agree with you, but I think Mcready will eventually
be up to Thayil's level (didn't Thayil get arrested recently)

Also, well, if you're going to say Mike's better, put a caveat on it:
he's better when he's sober.

But you must remember that Little Wing is a Jimi Hendrix cover,
Hendrix being the greatest guitar player ever.
i will say that the reason the bands are different is because the music
is different, not the guitarists. each band's songs are very different.
if pj continues along their current songwriting path (vitalogy -
merkinball - wya & habit) that difference will only increase.

the 7.9.95 little wing is really just an intro for maggot brain... mike
never really gets going until they kick it into mb... if you wanna really
hear mike do little wing, the version from 3.3.95 in singapore is more
complete...
jeremy (who'd really like to hear the band do 'castles made of sand' and
'red house' if they're gonna do more hendrix as well they
should... i love eddie's taste in music, but i'd like to see the
other band members picking more of the covers... just guessing
eddie picks most of them now...)
and so castles made of sand... fall to the sea... eventually....
>But you must remember that Little Wing is a Jimi Hendrix cover,

even though Little Wing is a Hendrix song, they go into Maggot Brain which
is technically a J Mascis song (even though it was on Mike Watt's CD).
however, the solo is quite different. the rhythm in the background is the
only similarity.
Mike <---will be know as Taco from now on because there's too many Mike's
no no no no no!!! j mascis is covering funkadelic (check your liner
notes, the 'mother earth is pregnant' intro is credited to the grandmaster
of funk- that nba jam guy, george clinton)... lead guitarist on the piece
is eddie hazel. channeling those cosmic vibes....
> however, the solo is quite different. the rhythm in the background is the

the rhythm is just a couple of simple arpeggios played over and over... i
thought the cover solos had quite similar flavors, actually... with
apologies to the two fine guitarists covering the song, the original is by
far the best, imo.

Are you talking about solos or the main riffs in general.Because from what's
printed in PJ albums,Gossard has written a lot of the main riffs(not
solos).Eddie and Jeff write their fair share of songs as well.
mich A el it's beautiful it rings
that's why its so popular
i named my son Rafael because of the similar musical ring. people
just don't pronounce it properly. I named my daughter Antonette.
alessiana is my chosen name.

aless - who's rambling on in banality... duh. hubby's gonna be fucking
pissed about the laundry arrrgghhhh
Too bad. I think he's great ... as far as the question goes, I think Kim is
the better of the two. Mike's great, mind you, and I think he's technically a
better player, but Thayil is more innovative and distinct. There are probably
quite a few guitarists out there who can learn how to play McCready solos
note-for-note, but Thayil is so out there sometimes that I think only he can
pull his songs off with any sense of conviction.
Chalk one vote for Kim Thayi (thought they're both excellent).
