Does anyone else think that Eddie was a victim of incest. His father died when
he was young and when he grew up he looked like his dad. His mother was crazy
and thought he was his father. So anyway, she had sex with him and that is why
he's screwed up. Then his mother was put into a mental institution. What do
you think?

You mean like how Axl Rose suddenly remembered that his father (long
dead) had molested him when he was 2, so that's why he's so screwed up
now?
Well, if it were true I don't think the general public will find out,
and his mom's not in an institution now anyway.
Do you think maybe EV just has a good imagination when it comes to
thinking up song material?

hey- i know we have all come to the adult agreement that we won't facilitate
malicious gossip-anywho- i heard that too- way way back - and i dont know
from who - all i remember was that i heard it at lollapalooza when pj was
there- probably some weird rumor- but the lyrics to Alive sure as hell
sound like a very specific story(unlike daughter,rearview- or the others)
when he sings "im ready for you"- i cant get rid of this scary mother
figure approaching him - how about you
abby-

I think that Eddie puts out music for people to enjoy and feel. What I
don't think is that Eddie, Just like Shakespeare, needs people analyzing
his music. So - leave Eddie's past history alone and understand what he
blatantly tells us lyrically. You people who question so damn much about
Eddie and the others are the ones who drive them off the music scene and
make them wonder why they ever came out in the first place

Leave the music to what it is and stop being such an anal-retentive analyst

The story is not about EV personally. If you read the FAQ, it states
the the songs 'Alive', 'Once' and 'Footsteps' make up the story. EV has
referred to these as a mini-opera and he also stated that it is not
autobiographical. Hope this helps.

If I'm not mistaken, Edward Louis Stevenson is Eddie Vedder's birth name. I
have been wrong before though...

Hey man... if you read the Pearl Jam FAQ posted a little while ago, it
says that Edward Louis Severson III is Eddie Vedder's(Mueller's?)
biological name. I guess he's thanking himself?!?!

You're right. Edward Louis Stevenson III is Eddie's birth name. his mom then
married (as eddie calls him) "that lawyer fuck". the guy adopted eddie and
eddie's name became Edward Mueller. When his mom and the guy got divorced,
eddie changed his name to Vedder, his mother's maiden name.

Not Stevenson, but Severson.
