"Ladies And Gentlemen, Ashlee Simpson"

Her band starts playing....

All of a sudden her voice appears out of nowhere, out of sync with the music, playing the WRONG
vocal track....

Looking surprised, she quickly starts lip-syncing into her cordless microphone...

Suddenly, her voice disappears from the mix...but she is still lip-syncing into the mic...so
she looks around and everyone is confused, looking at each other...

Ashlee then runs off the stage, embarrassed...

The band keeps playing without vocals...

*Sudden cut to commercial*

At the end of the program, she attempted the cover up the pre-recorded vocal by claiming that
"the band played the wrong song".

She wasn't even dancing around or anything, she was lip-syncing a basic rock performance!

Too funny.

Anyway, I figured you guys would get a kick out of this.

From Lucky Magazine interview:

LM: What are your takes on lip-synching?

AS: I'm totally against it and offended by it. I'm going out to let my real talent show, not to
just stand there and dance around. Personally, I'd never lip-synch. It's just not me.

------------

On SNL, her pre-recorded vocal track breaks down.

To cover this, at the end of the show she says:

"Oops, My band started playing the wrong song! That's live TV for ya!"

I just saw the clip. After she leaves the stage (in all of her mediocre
glory)
the musicians just smile and play on. I don't think I've ever seen happier
musicians.
Then she blames it on them? CUNT.

and that was her biggest mistake of the night. i can't believe someone
told her to say that.

Perhaps they played the wrong song on purpose? It's entirely possible for
someone to use a fake vocal track to lip sync to if the drummer is playing to a
click track.

I have actually been to rock shows where i thought i heard a piped in backing
track or echo track. Once i was at a Garbage show and i got the distinct
feeling on certain songs they were thickening up the sound with an echo track.

Man; I just watched the clip. What a bunch of crap! It's a good thing
her main fan base is probably asleep by that time of the night anyway ;)

Crappies thing is she blames the band, like it's their fault she got
busted lip synching. I don't know who's fault it was that the wrong
song was played, but she clearly got outed as lip synching, and that's
just funny!

I guess that episode won't make the 'best of' collection :)

Hello

Anybody else think this was ALL done on purpose (ala Janet)?

Nobody does things on "accident" these days - especially something like this.
It's just like in February - EVERYBODY is talking about it. It's making her
look stupid (for getting 'busted'), and like a bitch (for blaming her band) -
but the attention she's getting now is bigger than anything she got on MTV.
Apparantly there was a segment about it on the Today show (which I didn't see),
and there was a tease leading into the NBC nightly news (which I did see) - and
that's not including all of the Cable news stations, and the Daily show, and
the nightly talk shows.

In addition - there's an awards show that she's scheduled to perform at....on
NBC.

You know, that last sentence is interesting. Before Saturday, I didn't
even know who Ashlee Simpson is. After seeing her implode on TV, I now
know who she is. Granted, I think she's a no talent hack that's the
product of the crappy record label machine.
But I wonder how many people will watch that awards show tonight just to
see if she is lip synching, falls apart, etc. I still don't care about
her, but I wonder if other people will take a slight interest in her
now, out of morbid curiosity.

All that being said, as a musician myself I can't imagine anyone wanting
to get that kind of hype. I mean, with Janet Jackson someone might want
to pay money to see her live to see if her boob "falls" out again, and
at least she can sing. Why would anyone want to buy an album from an
artist that at the very least has MAJOR help in the studio (i.e. she
sings music lyrics monotone and the produce "pitch corrects" the songs),
and at the most has someone else paid to sing songs while you sell the
albums based on a name and looks. Why go to see her live if she's not
doing anything more than "dance" (which, I'm sorry, based on SNL she
can't do that either)? Mili Vanili got a little notoriety from their
lip synching debacle, but it didn't do anything for their careers (other
than kill it).

The wat i see it is alot of television shows were not set up for live rock n
roll in the 60's
and 70's, so bands were forced to lip-sync their songs and most hated it and
some made it very obvious they weren't playing their instruments.
Keith Moon comes to mind and I remember seeing the Grateful Dead on some
show in the 60's where Phil Lesh was playing a broom and another time a band
(i can't remember who) the guitarist played his guitar flipped over, strings
against his body.
The fiasco the other night wasn't because the studio didn't allow live bands
(quite the contrary on S.N.L.). The band was actually plugged in and
live. She "couldn't" do it without a vocal backing.
In my view Ashley and "stars" of her ilk are amateurs with minimal talent.
They are exploited, taken into a recording studio then record vocals with
probably hundreds of takes to get the vocals right for one song. And then
edited together to sound wonderful.
Then these people are expected to go out and perform live and they can't cut
it.

And it's not like SNL has gained any credibility over this. Especially
when this is run in USA Today:
"But the track sounded like a guide vocal, a common concert aid in which
the singer either "lip synchs" or sings along to the tape. An SNL
insider, speaking on condition of anonymity, told the Associated Press
that the show has used such vocal tricks in the past."

I'm not surprised, but it's not good for SNL for an "insider" to being
going around confirming that stuff, either.

I'd heard of her. The media hype has been "that she's not *just*
Jessica's little sister"... but honestly, I would never have known (or
cared) she was Jessica Simpson if that had been ignored. Making such
a big issue out of it has got to be just part of the hype.

And god, did you read that quote by her father someone else posted?

I agree. I don't see the point in going to a Britney Spears concert
(who, if I'm not mistaken, also lip syncs at her "shows") or whoever
else for the same reason. Hell, just watch their music videos, it's
probably the same thing...

Only live on the east coast. I have been told on the west cost airing NBC
pulled her vocal track so you never heard what really happened.

There's a difference between being surprised and enjoying. It's no
surprise that lipsyncing is done. But it's a real treat to see someone
get busted doing it.

I think it works like that. I did know who she was, because I like the
Moldy Peaches and their singer Adam Green has that Jessica Simpson song
about her sister. But I've never seen or heard her, and the whole hype
about this the past few days makes me want to see the video. Just to be
able to laugh along.

Ok, that's what I thought had happened. I knew it's tape delayed when I
watch it in San Diego, and I know I didn't hear any vocals when I saw it
as the show first aired here (I had it on Tivo and rewatched it just to
verify, no vocals). However when I saw it on the news the next day (and
the day after) I heard the vocal tracks.
