for me:
saratoga 2000. i just listened to it tonight at the gym and its superb.
masterful masterful michael on dissident and nothing as it seems, perfection
on sleight of hand. the band, as they say, is ON. if you werent at this
show...find video. if you havent heard this show...find audio. its
perfection.
the fact that i was front row for the first time of my life and dead ass
center only sweetens the sounds.
now you.
s
Hehe, I was at Saratoga, but that's not my pick. Lawn seats give a slightly
different impression. Still a great show, though, Timeless Melody!
But, for me:
Buffalo '03. No question. The closest Pearl Jam came to my hometown since
1996, I just felt something special about this show, and when I got there,
it fulfilled my highest expectations. FRONT ROW seats, the only time I've
ever been so lucky. 3 encores, it was like they didn't want to leave.
AMAZING Wishlist tag, the solos on Black and Crazy Mary were sick. Driven to
Tears was nearly perfect, and, and, People Have the Power. I was lucky
enough to be there the two times they played the song in full, and Buffalo
was light years better than Albany. THE BEST SHOW of the first leg, and one
of the 5 best from this years tour. There is video, there is audio. Get them
both.

It's not the world that's heavy,
just the things that you save...
where i was has nothing to do with it though. i was speaking purely from
the discs, not from memory. rocking rocking rocking fiery show.

specfuckingtacular show, i concur. on another day i could easily end
happiness is this way.
=)
i reiterate though for anyone else who might want to contribute, we're
talkin music, not seats.
s
> Buffalo '03. No question.
Yep, me too. And I wasn't even there. But Jonas was, and he caught a
drumstick and sent it to that whiny redheaded girl who got beaned in the
head with one in Nashville. Said whiny girl got it when she was having a
really shitty day and, well, it was one of those signs that "hey, there are
good people out there who will be nice to you for no damn reason." And
there really are, but at the time said whiny Nashville girl needed an
awakening (maybe being beaned in the head with a drumstick) to see that.
Enough with the third person. It's weirding me out. Long story short:
Someone sending you a piece of PJ memorabilia, while not necessary, is a
pretty quick way to a lot of lengthy conversations. So after talking for
several months, I visited Jonas over New Year's and, well, now I'm pretty
damn happy. :) Not entirely because of Buffalo '03, but it certainly
helped. :) Once again, PJ provides more than just a few great records.
Ok, now on three, everyone go "awwww."
Holly
Awwwww.
Except, I got the drumstick at the first MSG show. :-P
Bah!
Fine, I retract my story then.
Happiness is Nashville '03. Because Matt laughed at my "Save us from the
tomatoes" sign and Jeremy and I got Cheetah Chrome onstage with Ed.
Oh, and I got beaned in the head with a drumstick. That ruled, man.
:-P
Holly, indignant.
Thanks. :)
But yeah, change that Buffalo '03 to MSG 03, and then it's not only good,
but it's true! :)
Holly
cheers,
theo

I don't know...I know this might make y'all groan, but happiness is just
being there, period. :)
-Jennifer (I love this fuc....ahem)
Genuinely smiling a really big, genuine smile ;)
-Jennifer
well YEAH, but pick a show that smokes so much its impossible for you to sit
still. i was even rocking out to the slow ones, the band was so on that
night. i cant listen to 'just being there' tomorrow at the gym. hehe.
> -Jennifer (I love this fuc....ahem)
hehe, me too.

Ditto. :-)
i really hope the band hit the vaults and release good clean clear versions
of some shows, including that one most definitely. please, let it be, let
it be. having a copy is great, but having some quality on it would be
KILLER.
s
I don't know, it's too hard! I might just have to go through all my boots to
figure it out, oh no! Hehe.
-Jennifer
Yeah, that show wasn't half-bad, if you like that sorta thing (i.e. fucking
awesome shows!)... ;)
-Jennifer
God yeah. That would make me a very happy girl, let me tell you. Video just
might kill me outright.
-Jennifer
Aww, man, well, that makes *my* day, so wow! Pay it forward! :)
> ok enough cheesy shit from me, don't even notice I said anything!!
Hey, I liked the cheesy shit. PJ has been there for me for a long, long
time, through various stages of happiness and distress and all. But this
last tour just turned out to be a completely amazing experience on so many
levels. :)
Holly
i was at that show, all i remember is eds mic stand falling down at
the beginning of stbc. that and missing the i87 exit off champlain
three times, and running out of gas and finding out the fucking
phones on the side of the highway don't actually work.

smooth move.
how could you not know you needed gas?
no no, i live 5 minutes from the champlain bridge, we ran outta
gas somewhere in new york, cause we're idiots.
haha, ive been lucky...every car ive had runs for at least a good day on
empty.
one of these days i'm sure i'll have a car thats empty when it says it is. i
wont be laughing then...
is it true that it fucks up your engine to run it on empty? allen is always
riding my butt about not filling the cars up
i've never run out of gas when i was driving, but i've cut it close a
number of times, one time i gassed up with a little less than a liter
left, that was the closest ever, i was lucky cause i was in a part
of town i'd never been in before..
im surprised somebody like you would do something as dumb as even coming
close to running out.
as for me, i do a lot of dumb things:)
what can i say, i live on the edge
i just wanted to relay, you know, like the who song.

thanks for making me smile so much tonight, steph! i can't think of 1
show. everytime i pick 1 i think of another 1 like:
seattle 2 2000. a great feelings all around. the relief that the
band made it though that tour, the power of that night! the show was
so great it had me smiling for days even though i knew the tour was
over!
HOB - damn, that one had me smiling in anticipation from the day i got
the phone call saying i won! and to fly down there with friends and
family and meet up with so many great people -then get right in front
of mike for a great, great show! my first 'ed' pick..my first 1/2
dozen mike picks =) so cool
a show that gets overlooked a lot - san antonio 03. it was my first
of the 03 tour and i was eagerly anticipating it for weeks! the band
was ON, mikeys birthday and he played it up! when it was over lynn,
doris, and i just looked at each other and went 'holy shit!'
the msgs. get the videos. 'nuff said
the bostons. lol..i do love that town! happiness is being in boston
when pj is playing 3 shows and not repeating a song!! ...well, except
1 =}
benaroya...wow. the energy coming off that place as i walked up to
it...it reminded me of 'ghost busters' with the building ready to
explode! another highly anticipated shows that didn't let me down for
a second! i felt like i was walking in a daze until i was in my seat
and the show started....nothing else mattered in the world. the crowd
loved it, the band was loving it...pearl jam told a joke! lol, great
show, great fun.
i guess to me happiness was the 03 tour. i couldn't have asked for
more - well maybe something within driving distance to my house but,
wtf, i like to drive. i had a great time. ...no place i'd rather be
than a pj concert.

the first note of each show i've seen. you have to know what i mean.
and a particular show? 6/26/03. Detroit (or auburn hills, whatever) when
they played red mosquito and my brother and sister were next to me,
completely rocking out to it:> made me a very happy big sister :>

TANSTAAFL
Hangovers only last a day, but a good drinking story lives on forever....
i keep one of those cans of emergency gas in the trunk. just in case. and on
my old car, i did a test to see how far i could go "on empty", so id know
how long id have approximately before the situation was desperate in case i
ever didn't have that can in the car.

What a very nice story.
Lesson for all you fellas out there, if you're trying to score with the lady
of your dreams, it helps significantly if you send her memorabilia from her
favorite band, especially if she got whacked in the head previously but
didn't get to keep the thing which whacked her in the head.
Nothing more, nothing less.

John
MSG II, 1998.
Release opens, Indifference and Alive Close.
It was the first time I have ever heard Release live and it's been the last
time I have heard Release live. I could have left the show after song one
and it would have been the greatest concert I have ever been to, but the
fact that the band followed Release with the best concert I have ever seen
them play just made it legendary. The whole Breath thing was cool, as well,
and it was only enhanced by the fact that I was at the show the previous
night and I sat behind the stage and was able to actually see how many
Breath signs there were being held up by people.
I had tickets to the next PJ show in Hartford, which was on my birthday, and
I had such a great time at MSG II that I gave those tickets away because I
didn't want to spoil the memory of the perfect show and the perfect setlist.
I listen to the 1998 boot often. If I could get a video of it, I would be a
happy man.
Happiness for me will always be that show and no show will ever top it.
Vegas 2000 came close, but didn't quite get over the top because of the
Release factor.
Thanks Steph, thinking about that show brings a broad smile to my face.
Regards,
John

show it was? thats odd.

i brought my best friend who fell in love with pj at the same time as me to
the montreal show for her first ever front row experience, and we were dead
center. the highlight of that show had nothing to do with the band....it
was during and after the opener when she was totally just glowing and
grinning and and blowing kisses with open arms at the stage in general.
what an awesome sight. so i know how you feel.
=)
s
it was ok, didn't do much for me.
Vin, your participation in this thread was almost Moses-esque. Having said
that, you're so cool that you can see past the magic in a show and only
focus on things like mike stands falling and traffic problems.
So cool!

John

Don't you mean, word?
This was a magical show... first row in an amphitheatre and I had 5 feet
to myself along the rail. The stage is low there, and between the
barrier and the pit is so close that Ed simply stepped from the stage to
the barrier and held the hand of my friend, a couple feet from me. A
spider was hanging down for several songs, and finally landed on Ed, and
he proceeded to play with it, letting it crawl all over him. Shorts...
nuff said.

I came close in Denmark. I wanted to save some money so I passed the
German/Danish border first before looking for a gas station. But they
did not seem to have gas stations, haha, so I kept on driving until it
got scary. We then turned to some peninsula and asked a man in a tourist
office. He said it would be another 20 km's from there, but that it
wouldn't be a problem because I could drive a lot once the meter turned
red. He was right :).
