Subject: Kenny Wayne Shepherd & Pearl Jam
I noticed something so odd, I had to see if anybody else ever caught it.
In preparation for my drive to law school, I decided to make a tape of
guitar songs, no vocals. One of the songs I put on was "While We Cry"
from Kenny Wayne Shepherd's first album; a song I haven't listened to in
years. At first I thought, "The beginning sounds like Pearl Jam's 'Yellow
Ledbetter'." Well, it turns out the entire song sounds exactly like
Yellow Ledbetter minus vocals. I find it amazing that two people would
write songs that sound so much alike. I attributed this to coincidence
until I noticed that the name of KWS's album is "Ledbetter Heights."
Anybody else ever notice this?

You walk on grass, it turns to hay
Your blood is blue and mine is red
My body strains, but the nerves are dead

they're not THAT similar. i'd say the kws song was more in response to the
stevie ray vaughan song called "Lenny" then yellow ledbetter. but it's a
common blues progression. .. everybody's done it. (almost)
that being said, everytime i play yellow ledbetter i throw in some while we
cry licks. it makes me happy. . .some people actually recognize them too.
that's what always impresses me.
little wing's in a slightly different key though.
