OT: Couples Retreat

the movie "Couples Retreat".
My wife and I took a break from painting and emptying boxes in our new
house to go do something fun. We went with a friend to see Couples
Retreat. It was funny enough I suppose, but it wasn't anything "to
write home about." It was pretty typical actually. A bunch of
disfunctional couples get tricked into going on vacation and almost
all the relatioships fall apart, but are saved at the last minute, and
everyone lives happily ever after. Sort of like The Love boat, only
on an island...so like Fantasy Island, but no fantasy.
Vince Vaughn has been on the tube or radio...wherever...talking about
how this movie is not "raunchy" and that people are tired of "ranchy"
and that everyone tells him they like that it is not "raunchy." Well
if by "raunchy" you mean really funny, then, "NO" I'll take raunchy.
It's not that this movie was bad, or that I didn't laugh at times,
it's just that it wasn't that great and I laughed a lot more at other
movies. My wife and I go to see lots of movies...we love the
movies...for example we saw "the Hangover" earlier this summer. That
movie was Raunchy, and funny, and we both loved it. This movie just
wasn't. Although my wife liked it more than me, so your mileage may
vary.
Going back to the raunchy thing...ya know the characters in this movie
spent the whole time either tying to get a "hand job" during the
massage, or showing the erect penis of the guy during the massage, or
the women of the group oogling the naked yoga instractor, while he was
in all sorts of simulated sexual positions...or to shorten this a bit,
the only thing different was that there wasn't any "boobies" in this
movies. So I guess what Vice was getting at is that "raunchy" equals
"nudity"...which we know fromt he superbowl a few years ago is the
most evil thing in the world.
So what does this all boil down too...don't go see this movie...watch
the Hangover on DVD when it comes out instead...but be prepared...it
has boobs, and peepee parts and dirty words and everything.

just OK (had its moments, good and bad) and thought Knocked Up was mostly
crude and idiotic but the blond sure was purty.
I think Ed Helms is a comic genius.
Given this data will I like or dislike The Hangover?

Well The Hangover, isn't "smart" like Juno. It's pretty mindless in a
way like Knocked Up. Ed Helms is funny in The Hangover, so you are
all set there. The thing about the hangover that I liked is that
while its a comedy, and a farce, it is also sort of a mystery. You
are constantly wondering what the hell these guys did the night
before. There are no lessons learned or anything like that though.
While I won't spoil it, stick around until the end while the credits
roll, it is totally worth it. Hope that helps.

We didn't think 'The Hangover' was all that funny, so we will
definitely pass on 'Couples Retreat" (even though I know
someone that worked on that movie on location in Bora Bora).

Yes, it helps. I laugh as soon as Ed Helms starts talking so chances are
I'll dig The Hangover. Plus the trailers seemed pretty funny from what I
saw of them. I'll check it out, thanks again.

so often i see trailers and expect the movie to be laugh at loud funnay
and am just mildly amused when i end up seeing it. such a
disappointment. but the hangover was one of those rare few laugh out
loud funny movies for me. it was surprisingly good!

The Hangover was one of the funniest movies I have seen in years! I
have seen it a few times now and I am still not sick of it. I thought
Alan/Zach Galifianakis was gold, each time I watch it, I pick up
something comically odd that he does.
Another movie I watch recently was “I Love You, Man”. Predicable
ending, but yeah you will get that, but I still found it funny
nevertheless.

"I love you man" was pretty good stuff. It is a comedy so you know
the basic happy ending is coming...so that's not too surprising. All
in all though, it was pretty decent. Comedy is a tough thing..at
least a tough thing to get right.

Another movie (not a comedy) I am keen on seeing is Invictus. I am a
Kiwi who is rugby mad, but that and food poisoning aside, it still
looks like a good flick.
