I'm confused...I keep hearing all this stuff about McCready playing lead for
Stillwater...and I desperately want to see the movie...but Mike doesn't
appear, and from the "behind the scenes" stuff that I have caught, the guys
in the band all learned to play their instruments...and I kept seeing Peter
Frampton (I guess he was their teacher)...so what's the deal?

Does Jason Lee REALLY sing? (that would be PRICELESS!)
Does Cudrup play guitar for the band, or what?

My guess would be the following...Cudrup plays almost everything, except for
the "Studio" version of Fever Dog that is on the soundtrack...but I'm still
not sure if that's Jason Lee singing or not (I REALLY hate it when they
don't let the actor sing for real, ie. Back to the Future...I don't care
what Michael J. Fox sounds like when he's singing, it's got to be better
than that SHITTY voice-over)

Anyway, if someone could clear this up for me...thank you! :)

I havn't heard anything about McCready playing for Stillwater, on the studio
version of "Fever Dog" possibly?
Billyn Cudrup played lead guitar and as far as I know Jason Lee really did
sing. At least it looks like he is singing, and he does have a band or
sorts. He makes some good 'ole weird music like beck or bjork.

Almost famous is an excellent movie, it really sums up my love for music.

From the Almost Famous soundtrack:

6. "Fever Dog", Stillwater

Written by Russell Hammond. Produced by Nancy Wilson.
Vocals: Marti Frederiksen
Guitars: Mike McCready & Nancy Wilson
Bass: Jon Bayless
Drums: Ben Smith

Mike McCready appears courtesy of Epic Records.
Recorded by Scott Olson at Stepping Stone Studios, Seattle.

Hope that clears it up for you.
The movie version sounds like the studio cut - at least the voice does, so
I doubt that Jason Lee actually sings it in the movie. But then again, I
don't know what his singing voice is like.

Cheers,
eric

My guess is the idea was to learn to LOOK like they knew what they were
doing (and they do), but mimicking the recorded tracks.

Go see the movie, it's brilliant. Seen it twice.

btw, "russell hammond" is a character in the movie, the lead guitar player and
songwriter for stillwater. :)

from the articles i've read, cameron crowe (director, and husband of nancy
wilson) wrote the songs with nancy. cameron probably used russell hammond in
the credits as a joke.

I think Mike played lead guitar on all Stillwater songs. I believe it
was in the end credits.
