Cream of Gold really gets me where it hurts:
"I bleed in beige"

I thought Cream of Gold was pretty cheesy - I prefer the last three. My
favourite is The Hexx, at a pinch.

The Hexx is just the greatest song all-around on TT, IMO. I think they sorta
tried to make "Speak, See, Remember" an epic but it lacks that feel. I mean,
the lyrics to The Hexx, first of all, are really nice and interesting (i.e.
"architecture students are like virgins like an itch they cannot scratch/never
build a building til you're fifty/what kind of life is that?"). Secondly, it's
got it musically. It starts off all melancholy, and then the chorus is nothing
short of magnificent feel-good shit that's so wonderful you can't shrug it. And
then it goes back to the melancholy, and then this understated repeat of the
chorus but with a minor pentatonic lead instead of a vocal, and then to some
rather gorgeous yet simple arpeggiated lines.

The Hexx. I do believe I could listen all day long.

I think it is a draw between Speak See REmemeber and Spit on a
Stranger...actually, to be honest, each of the songs have awsome lyrics....I
love how Hexx mocks architecture students....

the hexx and speak, see, remember have been (justly) mentioned, but i must
add platform blues to the discussion...p-b hooked me first - musically and
lyrically, then the rest followed ...

I also like "Cream of Gold". My favourite Pavement rock song--since Rattled
by the Rush...

My favorite TT lyric is a tossup between "Senior year abroad I ripped the
pea out of the pod" and "See those sherpas sherpin' from the autobus."
