I've been listening to the set steady now for a week.
Disk 1 is absolutely great.
Disk 2 is mostly excellent with just a few junk songs.
Disk 3 is pretty uneven, some good stuff, some boring, some trash.
Disk 4 is another excellent 75 minutes of light jazzy stuff!
Disk 5 would come in handy at a disco party, otherwise makes a great
frisbee!

I stopped listening to TSC with 'Waiting', having been something of a
completist up till that point. Most of the early stuff, I haven't played
for five years or more so I was surprised by a) how much of the box set
I remembered, b) what a great singles band TSC were (with the exception
of the last two singles of Our Favourite Shop, everything up to and
including 'Have You Ever Had it Blue' is a little pop classic - except
Money Go Round which is a BIG pop classic), c) how many hidden
masterpieces there were tucked away on b-sides and stuff (like
'Bloodspots' which I reckon I must have played *once* back in 1985 and
then completely forgotten about), d) how much I regretted not getting
'Confessions' when it came out, and e) WHAT THE FUCK is disc 5 all
about???!
I really enjoyed listening to it all though - it's like The White Album
writ enormous - so many varied styles. Still, if it was a desert island
box-set thing, I'd be taking Direction, Reaction, Creation instead of
'The Complete Adventures...'
