I've been a fan of the Pat Metheny Group for many years. The first
album I every bought was "Offramp", then "As Wichita Falls...".
When "First Circle" came out I went and saw the group at UCSD and
was absolutely amazed at the tight sound the band had live! What was
really impressive at that time was Pedro Aznar, the Vocalist/Guitarist/
Percussionist from Argentina. During the concert he played a battery
of various percussion instruments, sang with a beautiful 'Nascimento'
style voice, whistled, and impressively played acoustic guitar along
with Pat. Pedro Aznar definitely had a great night when I saw the
Pat Metheny Group in concert that night. It was almost as if Pedro
stole the show, even though Pat Metheny was as remarkable as
usual.

Now I know Pedro has been in the band on and off, and I wish he'd
have been a more permanent member of the band. But does anyone
know what's happened to Pedro Aznar lately? And why didn't Pat
use Pedro for the long run, and instead, used two other vocalist/
percussionists to fill his shoes?

If anybody knows the story about Pedro Aznar, please let me
know.

Thanks.
Carlos

There's two websites that have info on Pedro:

http://www1.ridgecrest.ca.us/~donofrio/aznar/aznar.htm

(This is an unofficial site that I maintain, when I get time...)

and

http://www.pedroaznar.com.ar

which is his official site in Argentina.

He's continuing to produce music, but it's tough to get his CD's here in the
US. Hopefully that will change...

I saw PMG during that same "First Circle Tour" at Rutgers University in
November 1984. Perdo stole the show on that night also. Pat said he was
at the Rio Jazz Festival and someone gave have a tape of Pedro. Pat was
blown away by the tape in which Pedro played all the instruments and
sang. Pat was equally impressed by the fact that the tape was made in
Pedro's bedroom with a four track machine!

PMG is a very good gig to have. PMG members don't change that often.
Pedro must have somthing good going on in South America as a result of
his PMG experience. It may be just timing. PMG doesn't tour that often.
Pat usually rounds up the troops every couple of years. Maybe Pedro just
missed the boat this time.

Jeff.........I remember a while back hearing something about Pedro re-releasing
"Contemplacion". Do you know anything about this.....heard anything new about
whether this will happen and when?

Thanks, Linda
