Antonia we saw Pat? Well, it was their final hour, too bad it's all
over.
But, it's a *secret* story. Will we ever know?
Um, I'm not the first one to discover this, right?

Now c'mon, guys... When this (wonderful) album was released we had a
flooding of articles on the jazz press about it. Pat gave countless
interviews explaining that it was based on a long love affair that he had
with a Brazilian woman named Shuzi Nascimento (don't ask me who's
Antonia...). I even read it on Time magazine !!!
In any event, this is certainly one of Pat's most complex and
sophisticated efforts, and one of my favorite PM albums. And it's a
tribute to Pat's effort and genius that even people who never heard about
the (not so secret...) story can tell that it was based on a love affair.
Finally, if you have www access, point your browser to Kevin Stussman's
excellent PMG page (the one at gilman.com) and you will find many PM
interviews, including at least three where he tells the story of "Secret
Story"...
keep listening !!!

I'm wondering if this woman was related to Milton Nascimento, the
great Brazilian vocalist?? Anyone know? Also, did this woman die?
I heard rumors that she died while they were dating?
Any info would be greatly appreciated.

Yeah, I read a while ago that the album "tells the story of an intimate
relationship". I seem to remember also that it was autobiographical on Pat's
part, but don't hold me to it. :)
She is NOT related to Milton, and as far as I know she's still alive (she
definitively did not die while they were dating !!!). Again, I'll refer
you to the www site as the source of this info.
Forward march ! Yolanda, you learn the first circle. If I could tell it
all, (the) end of the game (is) beyond praise.
Not too meaningful, but it's still a sentence.

If you have "First Circle", you'll notice that those titles also seem to
form a phrase and imply a story:
"Forward March Yolanda, You Learn The First Circle. If I Could
Tell It All, <the> End Of The Game <would be> Mas Alla (Beyond). Praise!"
If I recall correctly, in interviews with Pat around the time of its
release, Pat alluded to the PMG coming full circle. Perhaps the story is
about the group and their hope for a long life.
Or... maybe the titles mean absolutely nothing and Pat's having a good
laugh about now. Either way, it's fun to speculate on such things while
listening to some truly great music.
So, when's the US tour?!?!?!?!

Kurt
