This is for the people who want to debate on
Pantera's glam wearing and cock-rock playing
in the 80's.
I think the only TRENDKILLER in Pantera is
Phil. I don't know how many of you are aware
of Pantera's sellout into hardcore. Before Phil
came along on "Power Metal"Pantera was
nothing different from Van Halen and Judas Priest. I own the albums from
Phil's 80's thrash bands and they are nothing glam. Pantera's
"Metal Magic" and "Projects in the Jungle" brought a sickening feeling
to my stomach when I first heard them a few years ago. I nearly
shredded every Pantera album I own
from "Cowboys from Hell" to the Live Disc.
With the incarnation of Phil Anselmo, Pantera
changed into a hard-grindcore band. I think
Phil is the only real thing in Pantera and who made Pantera who they
are. Being born and raised in N.O.L.A myself I can understand a lot of
his sayings. I still think he is a better singer in "Down" though. I
never was a real big fan
of his hard-knock street mentality in Pantera.
The bottom line of what I think is that if Pantera want to be
"Trendkillers" Phil should
kill the rest of the band and move on with
"Necrophagia" and "Down" as Anton Crowley.

Every couple of months, someone like you posts this same kind of shit.
Do you really think you're telling us something we don't know?
This IS a Pantera ng, there isn't a whole hell of allot we don't know
about Pantera at this point.
I agree that the pre-Phil indie releases when they were high school kids
are pretty weak but WTF do they have to do w/ what they're doing now?
Myself & many others here also own the albums....so what?

Thankfully (as you stated) Phil did bring about a positive change but
Dime, Rex & Vinnie were also ready for a change or they would have sent
Phil packing. At the time Phil was the new guy, so if the rest of the band
weren't ready for a change, I doubt they would have changed.
Of course this is all speculation. Only they know what they were thinking.
As far as your kill the rest of the band comment.....That's just retarded!!
Dime is one of the most incredible axemen around. Even on the old weak
stuff, his killer riffs still shown through.

With that said, I see you're an Acid Bath fan..... Great stuff!!!
Have you heard any news about Mike & Dax's Agents of Oblivion? I heard that
it's not as heavy as AB but in the same vein. If the cd's available I can't
find it. Have you checked out Sammy's Goatwhore? Killer black metal.
Fucking shame about Audrey, I would have loved a few more AB releases.
When the fuck is Soilent Green gonna give us something new? I've worn out
Sewn Mouth Secrets. Has Crowbar released anything w/ Sammy yet?

Later,

Pretty stupid response...I don't think any band was just fucking around back
then..they wanted to make it big in the glam scene..trendy and pathetic as it
is that's how it was..in no way were they just "fucking" around...Im sure they
were serious back then maybe you just don't want to beleive that...

phil isnt the only one responsable for the change you stupid fuck. dime was
asked to play in megadeth, be opted to stay and try to change the band's sound,
then they brought Phil into the picture.

That's what I'm talkin about. Phil wasn't the only one who made Pantera
what they are today. The whole band worked together. Phil isn't God.

Um, I know Pantera used to be glam. But were they Poison glam (really
really gay, the ultimate in gayness), or Motley Crue glam (supposedly
tough guys that are pretty much gay)?

They were more like Motley Crue than any of the other gay/glam bands.

all that hairspray;-)
People evolve. End of story.

when I look at this newsgroup, I doubt that people evolve, that's why
they don't want metal to evolve too.... (check out the anti-slipknot
posts... that's the future of metal, like it or not. whoever thinks
they sound like Korn and Limp Bizkit, obviously didn't bother to
listen to them... they sound much more like Pantera than any of the
other stuff)

I think the comparisons may have to do with Slipknot's sloppiness. I
haven't listened to them enough to draw a true opinion on them (and
chops isn't everything), but they *are* quite sloppy.

... at least they were on Mate, Feed, Kill, Repeat... only one I've
listened to.

I love Slipknot, but they are NOTHING like Limp Bizkit and Korn (they
suck). Slipknot mentions that they love death metal, and 80's thrash.
They fucking hate Limp Bizkit, and only like Korn's early stuff.

Slipknot always get compared to those guys because they are a new
band, and every new band gets compared to Korn and LB.

Take Cowboys From Hell, if that was just released in the last couple
of months (and sounded exactly the same like the actual album), Pantera
would STILL be compared to Korn and Limp Bizkit.

I have to say Slipknot remind me more of Korn/LB than Pantera. They have
all the attitude of Pantera but they're light on the chops... not many
people can play as fast as DD and VP.

Another similarity with Korn we can't overlook is the outrageous image.
Slipknot's chops will develop over time... unless they get lazy like
Korn and rely on MTV to sell albums. Why woodshed when you can spend
that time shooting the perfect music video? Image can be very
destructive.

See Most people say, "SLipknot is a rip of of Korn and Pantera combined"
see fucked that shit,#! if u have any sound like Pantera, your gonna kick
ass #2, u can't compare Pantera and Korn so u can't sound like both of them,
i think slipknot kicks ass and they're entertaining as hell, i knwo most
don't agree with me but there debut is sick, its fucking great, just behind
the new pantera of course (picked it up today, kicks serious ass) so really
my point is anyone who compares slipknot to anything like korn and shit is
just stupid.... ( byt the way this wasn't directed at you James Kilbane I
just replied off your post you sound like your down with slipknot anyway)

This band was a glam band and it serves them right for having to go through the crap that people give them for selling their soul to the "glam devil"! You were not around in the 80's! I was!!!! This is a shame that can not be undone! If you went the glam route there is not coming back from it!

I hate this band and I hate them because they were a glam band! Once you go Glam there is no coming back from that! I hated all the people in the early 90's that worshiped this band and I was dumbfounded at why? I knew they were once a queer glam band but i did not have the benefit of the internet to prove my case! I give guitar lessons now, and when any of my students wants to learn one of this fake bands songs I show them what Pantera once was and they never ask me to learn this bands songs again!

A cross between both. But does it matter? Once you go glam there is no coming back from that shame!

You are a complete and total idiot. You must listen to Pantera with your head up your ass! So what if they had pop-metal records in the 80s. They changed into a really awesome band. Fuck you, buddy!
