Trust me, the interview as a whole was nauseating. Stephen Jenkins, the
idiot in question, took little time to demonstrate that he's a
fame-sucking creep of the worst kind, smug and generally bereft of art
while inordinately praising his own supposed genius in having a hit song
about speed. Jesus! If I found the music even slightly interesting, I
could write it off a touch, but such is very much not the case. Can't
wait for the inevitable second album flop. After reading it, I wanted
to sucker punch the clown.
Especially amusing on top of it all was his boasting about getting
thanks and attention from Bono and the Edge. I think he probably failed
to realize that they likely say that to *all* their opening bands [Oasis
included, I'm sure!]. Sad sad sad...

And the worst thing about today's one-hit wonder radio stars is that
they have no redeeming qualities whatsoever. At least you could count on
bands like Bon Jovi to be unintentionally hilarious. Third Eye Blind are
too bland to even have fun mocking. They're just irritating in the
extreme...

Yeah, it's bound to happen. They're just another one of those faceless

As if it's so hard to write a song which mainly consists of 'doo doo doo
doo doo doo doo' over and over, that one cannot even perform live because
of the heavy vocal production. D'oh! Paging Damon Albarn (who is no longer

Isn't it second single flop? I mean, How's It Gonna Be has done *alright*,
but I *still* hear the doo doo doo song more often on the radio than that
sad How's It Gonna Be bit of rubbish.

That hurt my head. I will lie down now.
I am *not* defending 3rd Eye Blind, they do make me nauseous, however,
an Oasis fan shouldn't cut down another band for bragging or writing
songs about drugs..."Chained to the mirror and the razor blade". Yes, they
are obnoxious and they are nothing compared to Oasis, but Oasis does similar
stuff. (bragging, drugs, etc.)

Stop right there (thank you very much, I need somebody with the human
touch, etc). There's nothing to discredit. It's discredited by the fact
that it's hypocritical. End of story. Stop trying to ruin the current joke
the rest of us are having about Damon/Justine/Shaznay, silly.
Thing is, knowing him, you half wonder if he's thinking to himself,
"Okay, done the lo-fi slacker thing, now time to imitate late period
Marc Bolan." Personally, I wouldn't be all that surprised.

I'm waiting for the Richard Branson phase, myself, mainly because he'll be
too busy ballooning to bother the rest of us with his 'intellectual'
statements.
If it's Oasis' live act he is speaking about I can understand him.
Even though I like Oasis a lot they sure are a DULL and still
EXTREMELY arrogant live act.

So then if we've heard the entirety of the CD and have the sense to
realise the only thing that makes it look good is the dreadful Matchbox
20, we can make generalisations, right?
>You obviously haven't heard the entire CD. It is quite good. Give it a

I agree it's quite good (and underrated), but they still have a
long way to go until the songs are as good as Oasis' songs. And
songs is exactly what Third Eye Blind's and Oasis' genre is mainly
about.
It would be hysterical to see him with one of those little comedy
beards. That is, if he could actually grow one...

I'm truly, truly curious here: what genre of music *isn't* mainly about
songs? I really want to know.
What I want is for Blur to start imitating the Backstreet Boys. It's high
time for them to 'experiment' in that direction. Could you see Alex James
and Graham Coxon dancing with the chairs? I'm telling you, that'd be gold.

Actually, I've made my generalization on TWO crappy songs.

Rap and techno, for instance. I would also say riff based
rock'n'roll isn't that much about songs as is Oasis' and Third Eye
Blind's melody driven style.
A "song based" style is also supposed to be melodic in some
(Western) way, excluding all rap, most dance music and also a lot
of riff based rock'n'roll and blues based stuff.

Yeah, but look at Marky Mark now. He's done a good job with himself. Just
not with music. So maybe we're depriving the world of talent by hoping
that no Blur siblings start doing their own pop thing!

That was never my opinion. "Girls And Boys" sounds a little

Okay, let's bring this a little bit down: Geir, do you know what a song *is*?
>Okay, let's bring this a little bit down: Geir, do you know what a song *is*?
A melody with words to it. The melody being the most important
thing, but the words also being important in some (but in no way
all) cases.

You could probably discuss that. I would call it a "piece" rather
than a "song", but a short instrumental, with a highly obvious
melodic lead part may possibly be viewed a "song".

just wondering, geir. does anyone this side of morrissey share your myopic view of

I have the impression Morissey was more interested in lyrics than
I am. My reason for using that quote in my sig is simply it's a
great way of speaking my opinion on DJs and discos.
>what do you think of reggae? :D
As far as grooves go the reggae groove is my favourite group. That
doesn't mean I like a reggae song if the melody isn't strong, but
Bob Marley actually wrote some strong melodies.
Huh? Do you mean your favorite group of grooves, or did you mean to to
say "groove"? Consider me confused, even by Geirlogic standards...

No, Geir, it has nothing to do with melody. It is, simply put, MUSIC with
a song to it.
And, no, Geir, the definition of music does not necessarily equal melody,
either. And it most certainly does not equal only melodies that Geir
Hongro likes.
If you can't comprehend this, there is no point in going on in
