In case any of you missed it in AMO, here's what I think is a full list of
the songs Noel has ripped off, and what song he used it on. There are a few
gaps, if anyone could fill them in, then erm, thanx.

Oh yeah, I got a few of them off Mad Ferret's site, so, er, thanx as well.

With A Little Help From My Friends (Beatles) - She's Electric
All The Young Dudes (Bowie/Mott The Hoople) - Whatever and Stand By Me
How Sweet To Be An Idiot (Neil Innes) - Whatever
This Guy's In Love With You (Burt Bacharach) - Half The World Away
Flying (Beatles) - Shakermaker
Standing Here (Stone Roses) - *No idea*
Get It On (T-Rex) - Cigarettes & Alcohol
Ooh La La (Rod Stewart? Did he cover it?) - *No idea*
Imagine (John Lennon) - Don't Look Back In Anger
Uptight (Stevie Wonder) - Step Out
Roadhouse Blues (The Doors) - Put Yer Money Where Yer Mouth Is
Rosalie (Bob Seiger) - Step Out
Dear Prudence (The Beatles) - Who Feels Love?
Something (Beatles) - Roll It Over
Theme tune to kid's TV programme "You And Me" - She's Electric
I'd Like To Teach The World To Sing (New Seekers) - Shakermaker
*A Blondie song, I forget which* - Underneath The Sky
*That poem* - Go Let It Out
I Walk On Gulided Splinters (Paul Weller?) - Go Let It Out
*That song by The Beta Band* - Go Let It Out

This one's a maybe, but did someone say Champagne Supernova rips off
Octopus' Garden (Beatles)?

Scott

The Blondie song is "Call Me" which uses the intro part, but you forgot
Freedom by Wham which closely resembles the melody to Fade Away. Don't
believe me..listen to freedom, you can practically sing along the words to
fade away and they go!!

Stay Young....the verses are almost identical at the beginning ("One way out is
all your ever gonna get... and "Poor old grannie..." etc.). Plus, musically,
the chords are really close. Also, its the Faces, not just Rod the Bod by
himself.

that list's rubbish! Some, you don't even know whether he's ripped off, the
Walk on Gilded splinters was the poem, not the Paul Weller track (which is a
cover), and other mistakes ... anyway

helping by supplying a list and trying to get a bit more input on the
subject

the beta band song in question is 'dry the rain'

the riff from 'morning glory' is remarkably similar to rem's 'the one i
love'

I've always disagreed with this overstated notion, as far as their rip-offs
go this one is very minor and only matches up to a small portion in the
beginning of the verses.

Only Stand By Me, if you ask me...

Hmm, might be a few similarities, but i don't think they're that alike...

Shakermaker's not a ripoff of any Beatles song, only of I'd Like To Teach
The World To Sing, as those songs are 100% alike....

i don't know if you want more, but:

Going Nowhere- rips off "Rocket Man" by Elton John

Where Did It All Go Wrong- part of chorus is form PWs "Sunflower"

GLIO- rips off Johnny Jenkins' version of "I Wlak On Gilded
Splinters" which was originally written/perf. by Dr. John.
Beck sampled (though did not credit, to my knowledge) the song
for "Loser" which is of course the blueprint for most of the
Beta shtick- they took it for "Dry The Rain." The poem is an
oldy, and i forget what it's called. of a religious nature, it
was adapted by The Heptones for "Book Of Rules" (mentioned in
poem) and that's really where noel took the lyrics from. NME
erroniously reported that it was form a Booby & The Midnights
(Grateful Dead off-shoot) album where they covered the song.

Who Feels Love?- the beginning is a complete copy of TSRs "Ten
Story Love Song."

Digusy's Diner- not many people have mentioned this, but it
doesn't exactly "rip off" but strongly resembles "Little Miss
Queen Of Darkness" by the Kinks.

She's Electric- verse/chorus change (or maybe verse/bridge or
something) is taken from "While My Guitar Gently Weeps."

Roll It Over- "doesn't make it alright" is from "and you know
that it's right" from "Something In The Air" by Thunderclap
Newman.

there are more. where is this list archived (or is it)?? thanks.

Do you honestly think Noel does that much research per song? Being a Gemini
myself,I can almost bet he couldn't be arsed!

I think because he admits to pinching songs, poeple let their imaginations run
rapid.

I was recentley accused of being a "soul less bastard" but honestly, are
you really any kind of fan if all you have time to do is listen to
similarities in songs? Before you call me stupid for not realising that
some of the melodies or guitar chords were "ripped off" I know that Noel
has been at times brazen about doing it. It is going a bit to far
though to say that Champagne Supernova or Morining Glory strike any
resemblance to any other song. Many anti Oasis columnists accused Noel
and the rest of the band of being a "Beatles Cover Band' at first, and
as far as I'm concerned, if you are going to spend time disecting songs
and comparing them, then you are in the same class as any of the said
columnists are.

The first time I listend to Standing on the Shoulder of Giants, I to
likened the album as a very Pink Floyd-ish. NOW DON'T GET ME WRONG, I'M
NOT SAYING A PINK FLOYD "RIP OFF", but it is reminiscient of the Dark
Side of the Moon album, with the "big" sound that the back up singers
give it.

Now you have all gone to far! Going Nowhere is my favourite b-side, and
whoever it was that likened it to "Rocket Man" first needs to get his
hearing checked, doesn't know his or her music, or needs not call him or
herself an Oasis fan!

Firstly - What's happened here - Scottieski has given us some sensible and
nearly, dare I say it, constructive posts in this thread

Secondly - If you disect any song like that and compare it to every other
half way decent (not saying I like Elton John here, just some people do, so
it has to be classed as decent music) music, then your gonna find something
that sounds similar.

And whats so bad about it anyway - the beatles ripped off Buddy Holly and
blues stuff from the 50's, and the stones went round the black musicians
who at the time no-one white listened to, and ripped them off rotten

no doubt 'bout that!! And hopefully win the CL
