Could someone please tell me what he following lines mean in "D'you Know
What I Mean" -

I met my maker and made him cry
and on my shoulder he asked me why
his people won't fly through the storm
I said listen up man, they don't even know you're born

What does it mean??

It's about religion and how people can take it too far. This shows the other
side. A more chilled out attitude. People are so blinded by the "Glory or Awe"
They don't see the "common man/woman" in religious figures...It's like his
people say they'll do all this crap for him/her but they are too blind to
fulfill the real need and wants.Hence they are always doing the wrong thing
hoping to please this "god" by doing so they miss out.

This is how I took it. But interpret it anyway you desire. That's what great
about Nolan G. He does not tell us the meanings or truths behind all of his
songs..

no, Supersonic is about the dog...a dog named Elsa who licked some cocaine off
the floor that someone had spilt while in the studio once...the dog spent the
next day sitting there and staring at the wall.

I met the maker means He met God, and He cried because he's been so bad
And on his shoulder, you knwo how they have the devil on one shoulder and the angelon the other,
tell you what to do? He made the wrong choice, and the Anglea sked why he did that. His people
won't fly thru the storm...a plane won't take off during a storm, its to dangerous, nad it puts
the plane at risk, so why should God help Him if it's too risky, and the last line is God doesnt
care.

Thats what i think.

No offence, but i think you got that wrong.

>> >I met my maker and made him cry

He met God and God cried.

>> >and on my shoulder he asked me why

While crying on Noel's shoulder he asked him why--

>> >his people won't fly through the storm

people wont fly through the storm symbolizes people who wont fly through the
storm of life and try to understand God.

>> >I said listen up man, they don't even know you're born
>>

He said listen up to God, and told him that people dont even know he's born, or
they dont believe that he exists.

Does that make sense? thats the way i have always seen it. maybe i am wrong.

Just a suggestion

I think what you have to realise is that these were the most convenient
words at the time, no great deep meanings

Try to imagine... God crying and sitting on Noels shoulder... And asks him
a question... A bit megalomanian is he?

So, try to imagine Noel crying and sitting on his own shoulder. I bet even HE
can't do that. (Not the crying bit, the sitting on his own shoulder bit.)
Next time remember; NOEL IS GOD.

Why Noel's shoulder, I thought Liam sung the song?

Well, yes, i forgot.. this shows us these lyrics in a completely new way...
but, the strangest thing: The original lyrics are 'met my maker/made him
cry'. So, if the maker is God and God is Noel that'd mean: Noel is his own
maker! Plus: Noel is a very interesting object for the science.. Either
he's a totally shizophrenic person or he is his own maker...

Nah, nobody has a clue. It's about when their dad (Noel's and Liam's,
that is) was pushing around Peggy and lo and behold Noel wasn't a
little boy anymore and he took a swipe at his dad (his maker) and
landed him in hospital.
