Hi all,

I got a few emails from people asking me to re-post this info so
here it is... How to spot fake copies of:

1. (WTS) Morning Glory 13 track promo w/ Step Out
2. Cum on Feel the Noize 12" (with Champagne Supernova Remix)
3. Slide Away CD (1 Track Promo, issued for Brit Awards)
4. Oasis Live! CD (Sony US Promo with backwards writing)

++ (What's the Story) Morning Glory (13 Track with Step Out) ++
This was sought after initially as it contains "Step Out" which
was pulled from the album after Stevie Wonder complained wanted
too high royalties. A 12 Track version was subsequently produced
but the 13 Track version was officially "withdrawn" although
some copies escaped...

The Real McCoy:
- Sleeve has a slight sheen, and the oasis logo part is much
more shiney
- "All Rights of the Producer" Copyright text is printed around
the edge of the top half of the disc
- CD Duration is 53:50
- Disc has a transparent circle 3.5cm across and 2mm thick (in
addition to the hole)
- Matrix number (stamped around the middle hole) reads DAMONT
CRECD 189 CDM01

The Fake:
- Sleeve is thicker and has a matt finish
- No "All Rights of the Producer" information & printing of text
is more fuzzy in general
- "Compact Disc" logo is barely visible
- CD Duration is 53:51
- Disc has a tiny transparent circle which is barely visible and
only 2.5cm across
- Matrix number is CRECD 189 P

++ Cum on Feel the Noize 12" ++
This was sought after because the b-side contains Champagne
Supernova (Lynchmob remix) which is not available anywhere else
(apart from a few bootlegs). Apparently Liam hated it...

Interestingly the label # is CTP221X even though the matrix
number on the vinyl is CTP215X

REAL McCoy:
- In theory should be accompanied by a press release explaining
the delay of the release of DLBIA due to the popularity of
Wonderwall. (Which was the reason for the release of this promo
hence it having the same catalogue number as DLBIA).
- The matrix (on the run-out groove) states CTP 215 XA1
- The disc label should be in sharp black and white
- Copyright info is clear around the edge of the disc

The FAKE:
- A Side matrix # is CTP-215X A1 (note the "-") in a more jagged
style of writing
- The label is less sharp - the lettering is off-white and the
black background is more of a charcoal colour, flecked with
white blotches where the paper is coming through
- Copyright notice barely visible

++ SLIDE AWAY 1 TRACK CD PROMO (1,000 only) ++
This was issued by Creation as a celebration of the boy's
success at the Brits in '95.

It was selling for 50 - 75 pounds until the market got flooded
with fakes. You can still buy these fakes for 4 quid in the West
End of London and I have seen the *same* fakes on sale for 45
pounds in reputable collectable CD shops.

On the FAKE copy, the graffitti in the background of the picture
is harder to read. Look at the writing above Bonehead's face -
can you make out words written on the wall?

The BIG difference is that the FAKE doesn't have a complete
sleeve - if you turn a real copy over there is a flap that
reads "PROMOTIONAL USE ONLY" (or words to that effect) in large
leters running across whereas the FAKE doesn't even have this
flap on the sleeve - it stops at the spine!

(The flap I'm talking about is the same flap where you can read
the CD contents on a regular Oasis CD Single next to the bar
code...)

If this is confusing I'll dig out my real/fake copies and write
a better description...

++ OASIS LIVE! ++
The source of the recording is a taping done for JBTV of the
October '94 Chicago gig. Incidentally, a copy of this video
seems to have been made available (unofficially).

- Both discs have mirror writing

The REAL McCoy:
- In theory should come in a white wax-paper envelope although a
collector may have transferred the packaging
- Shadow/Outline effect on the title (Oasis Live) whereas on the
FAKE this subtlety has been lost
- Matrix # etched around the centre hole is

C2 (large gap) 1AESK06805 (gap) 01

- Elsewhere on the ring is printed "IFPI L422" and a Barcode
- The ridge within the translucent centre of the disc is 2mm
inside the outer, silver section of the disc
- a 1mm band runs around the edge of the disc, creating the
effect of three bands on teh outer rim - matt reflective, shiny
reflective and, on the edge, translucent

THE FAKE:
- Print quality is heavier/blacker, title bears no shadow
- generally sold in clear PVC Slip with a foldover envelope
flap.
- instead of replicating the complicated matrix the disc just
has "ESK6805" running around the hole
- no gap between the ridge within the translucent centre of the
disc and the outer, silver section of the disc
- no 1mm band around the rim of the disc, aside from the
traditional edge
