Yes...it need not be paradoxical that if one likes one band they should
hate the other...I like both. Just my thought...

I love them both too, for different reasons.

Blur sounds good and has good lyrics. most of the time.

No, I quite like Blur, but OASIS are the men for the job.

And I disagree, OASIS are NOT as good as the Beatles (but maybe they will
be...)

Who is blur? Again, I live in America and I've never heard
of Blur until I got the Internet. If they aren't on the radio or MTV,
then I don't know who they are, so if someone could tell me a few things
about them I'd appriciate it.

All this talk about Oasis and Blur has got me thinking (and i'm sure we
all know how dangerous that can be!!)....

Over here in Canada, I don't think there is quite the same adulation for
Oasis as in the UK. From what I've been hearing of late, Oasis is
absolutely huge overseas. Now my question is... Is Blur just as huge? Or
has Oasis passed them by in popularity long ago? Maybe Blur is bigger?
Somebody tell me who's winning the popularity race!!!!

Retreating back into his corner of the world,

No, actually, Noel said that the Beatles are the "ultimate pop

Well, I know in Canada nobody'd ever heard of them until they did a cover
(I think it's a cover, at least) of a song called Boys and Girls that
basically goes, "Girls who like boys who do girls like they're boys who do
boys like they're girls.. balahblahalha Always should be someone you
really love" and it's got a dance tune to it, sort of. Crap all song, but
I borrowed another of their albums from a friend and the rest of their
tunes aren't so bad. You probably haven't seen them much on MTV.. not at
all popular anywhere but England. :)

I have heard that in the UK, they are about equal, though I think Oasis

Blur is Oasis's "rival" band. I live in the States too, and you
haven't heard any Blur stuff?!? Doesn't your local modern rock station
play them? Surely you have heard Boys & Girls...it starts out with that
Nintendo game sound and goes on and on about "girls who like boys who
like boys like they're girls who do boys like they're girls like they're
boys..". Sound familiar? Personally I quite enjoy Blur. But Oasis are
the ultimate rock band!

In the UK that stupid bull popularity war between them which was
invented by the press was long won by Oasis (when (WTS)MG & Great

complete miles. Blur are hiding in the shadows right now.

Oasis fans don't hate them ingeneral. Some detested them, some don't
care, some believe they lack that flair. Think for yourself and at the
end of the day why does it matter - we should be able to live in piece
and harmony together forever.
Alternatively we could just machete all the Blur fans.

In New Jersey, more people have HEARD of Oasis than have heard of Blur,
but most people who know about Oasis say that they can't stand them,
they're a bunch of morons, etc..
Those of us who do like Oasis couldn't help but hear about Blur, and we
were interested to see just what all the fuss over there was all about.
It seems that most of us (the Oasis fans) like Blur too (my sister and I
have all the albums by both bands, and our friends who also like Oasis
KEEP borrowing them...I haven't seen "Parklife" in weeks!) -- so it looks
like the "big feud" did just what it was designed to do and got people to
buy records from both groups...

Man I'm sick to death of people like you that think that Blur
needs to beat Oasis to be better and vice versa. Both bands
have totally different styles of music and so don't even
compare. As far as I'm concerned they are both winners for the
fact that they both make really good music which is reflective
of thier own personal style. The only competition is the one
that the media has managed to convince you of.

The reason Oasis is bigger than Blur in America is because Oasis has more

See, this is why I responded in the first place, because everybody has
their own opinions, and we all like different stuff. Personally, I do
not like Dodgy, but I'm not going to post 1000 threads about how they
suck because it's just not prudent, relevant or worthwhile. Let people

Incomparable. Two different kinds of music. Blur writes brilliant pop songs
and when I saw them live they were great. I think 'The Great Escape' is one
of the best pop albums of the 90's. I don't consider Oasis pop, but more of a
straight ahead rock and roll band. I personally love both bands. Oasis has
released two fine albums. Blur, on the other hand, has alot more material (4
albums worth and alot of b-sides) and all of it is great as well. I've been
listening to Blur since 'Leisure' in 1991 and can't really say they've been
riding Oasis's coattails, since they have 1) been releasing albums longer
than Oasis and 2) have been quite successful on their own merits.

The Stone Roses were/are a fine band, but as far as 80's leftover's are
concerned, I'll take My Bloody Valentine over them anyday.

Blur sucks, they're trying to ride Oasis' fame and talent to get
somewhere. I have heard both live, Oasis in Houston at a small club
(400 people), got to talk and hang with them, great guys. Heard Blur
live in San Francisco, someone should introduce the band members of Blur
to each other so they can all play the same thing at the same time. And
the argument that Blur are experimenting with different types of sounds
doesn't wash, you can experiment with different ways to play tennis
without a net, but nothing of value is accomplished. Except for the
fact that Oasis had the good taste to say Blur sucks, why is there
anything at all to link this bands together? The Great Stephen Patrick
said himself that they (Oasis), not the overrated Stone Roses, are the
best thing to come out of Manchester (all of England?) since the SMITHS.
Before anyone gets mad at me for talking bad about the Roses, I like
them, but they never lived up to the potential they showed. By the way,
Stone Roses are one of Oasis' favorite bands, Liam and Noel don't really
fight much, and Oasis doesn't really hate Blur, it just gives them
something to talk about in NME (according to the guys in Feb '95).

Of course, if You like Blur, tell me why.

Both are typical songwriters bands, like Dodgy, like Lightning
Seeds, like XTC, like Crowded House and like some others.
When it comes to the way of arranging the songs there are big
differences, and I think the kind of Oasis fan who hates Blur is
the one who doesn't care for the songs, but just look for
fuzz-guitars.

That is a very ignorant way of listening to music. The SONGS are
the most important thing, and the way it is played is just
something they put on top. Personally I prefer Blur's more
sophisticated arrangements to Oasis' plain rock'n'roll, but both
groups have GREAT songs.
